Pokémon Colosseum, like the Pokémon Stadium games that begat it, is primarily a way of seeing the Pokémon you've caught in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire in full 3-D on your GameCube. By connecting a Game Boy Advance to your GameCube (link cable required) you can upload all your data from the portable games so that it appears on your GameCube and on the big screen. This means you can examine your Pokédex of over 200 Pokémon in full 3D, swap and trade items and Pokémon, view extensive tutorials, set out your hidden base, use e-cards and, most importantly, battle.

Pokémon Colosseum features a range of battlegrounds, ranging from out in the middle of Petalburg Woods to within a giant stadium with thousands of onlookers. You choose to fight the battles either against the computer, a friend or in a team battle with four people, but whatever you decide suddenly your Pokémon and all their amazing moves will be in super realistic 3-D--they look even better than they do in the cartoon. Using either the GBA or the normal GameCube controller makes the battles really come alive as you fight for honour or one of the many unlockable secrets.

The only problem with Pokémon Colosseum is that it's out so long after Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, but if you can wait that long this an absolute must-have for any Pokéfan. --David Jenkins

5 out of 5 stars Gotta Snag 'em all!   October 10, 2007

You capture wild Pokémon only, right?

Wrong! The lead character in this game wears a device on his arm, allowing him to snag Pokémon. However, you still can't just snag any Pokémon.

Teaming up wth a girl who has the ability to see dark auras, you travel around rescuing "Shadow Pokémon", who's hearts have been sealed shut in labs. Caring for these Pokémon and taking them to a special place restores the Pokémon to their original state.

When you've snagged all the Shadow Pokémon, and restored them, you're said to be able to get Ho-oh as well. I can't vouch for that yet, but I'm working on it.

4 out of 5 stars Pokemon in a whole new world (I don't mean that literally)   May 5, 2005

Pokemon Colosseum is a great game but it can become rather tedious for instance when you have to catch a particular Pokemon to move on, this can be extremely annoying. The graphics are great & the battles are outstanding. Sound - alright, but then again it's not hard to be alright when you're not there - this game is virtually silent but that's a bonus because you don't have to listen to the characters going on. One thing thing it lacks is the basic Pokemon selection at the beginning which is rather annoying because I want a Treeco!

Overall impression? - rather good so why are you still reading this...buy it!

This game is great for pokemonfans.Pokemon colosseum is about snagging pokemon and purifing pokemon with your two best pokemon (Espeon and Umbreon).Pokemon colosseum has two modes story is about snagging pokemon and purifing them and colosseum battle is where you can battle in colosseums or challenge mt.battle(mt.battle is where you have to face 100 trainers and defeat them)or you can link up with your friends and battle each other and get pokecoupons to exchange them for rare items. And you can trade with the gameboy advance games Pokemon ruby, saphire, fire red and Leaf green.

4 out of 5 stars Not as good as hoped.   November 25, 2004

I think the thing that really attracted me to the original game was the fact that you could capture (not steal) over 149 pokemon. Although, this is still, one of the better games on the gamecube-despite me being rather critical of it.

The game sees you, an ex-pirate who has left his group on a journey (another one!) The plot is essentially that some evil group have been making shadow pokemon! You need to steal these pokemon, which your lady friend can see, and bring them back to their senses. Unfortunately, plot wise thats pretty much it, but there is plenty to do, dont get me wrong.

Graphically, this game is good. The locations are genuinely big and really reflect the nature of the area through the music. The pokemon are well modelled and genuinely look and fight well, but as with most games in this era, the looks aren't the be-all and end-all of it. The gameplay is what stands out. So there are only 60 pokemon AND NO STARMIE DAMN YOU! But the fact you REALLY have to fight for them (and die) is what makes it so rewarding. You now fight with two pokemon at a time, and this actually works well. HOWEVER, the computers pokemon are incredibly hard to capture, they can break out of super-balls with incredible ease, and this adds to the frustration. There are various gyms you can go to, TMs to unlock and an incredibly 100 battle arena that becomes increasingly more difficult as you go on. Along with that, there are the colleseums to go to. Putting it bluntly, there is a lot in this game that will keep you coming back for more.

So whats dissappointing-the fact that most of the hardcore fans of the original will be dissappointed, that only a few appear from red, blue and yellow, but they're nearly all from silver, gold, ruby and saphire. For those of us with a poorer memory that means even more names to remember, and for the action fan amongst us, this game is still turnbased and you have to wait whilst the computer takes its go, it can turn into a game of chess more or less.

Other than that, its good. Worth adding to your collection
