Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
It's rather ironic that Resident Evil Code: Veronica X has rejuvenated the PS2's fortunes in Japan, because it's essentially identical to the original, year-old version on the Dreamcast. Code: Veronica is, however, a superb game that deserves as large an audience as possible, lest its heady mix of action, puzzles and lots and lots of zombies goes unappreciated by the masses.

Unlike previous games in the series Code: Veronica is portrayed entirely in 3-D--although the atmospheric camera maintains an essentially static viewpoint for most of the time. The amazing graphics are obviously the main draw but you'll also find that some of the more irritating foibles of the series have been ironed out--such as the scarcity of ammo and camera angles that make combat unfairly difficult.

The "X" at the end of the game's name indicates that this is a special edition, but the new stuff is limited to a couple of extra camera angles and some new cut scenes with uber-baddy Wesker. In terms of extras the most interesting aspect of the package is actually a demo of the forthcoming Devil May Cry. But unless you've already got the Dreamcast version, buy this for the game and treat the other stuff as a bonus because survival horror doesn't get any better than this. -- David Jenkins

5 out of 5 stars Just a quick mention   September 4, 2008
I'm not going to review the game as such,it's excellent,I have it on Dreamcast and bought the "X" version on PS2,no I'm just going to point out the version differences,The 'Cube version is full screen,no borders unlike the PS2 and overall seems to load quicker although it still has the doors/steps,also the intro is a little different again to the PS2,the controls are like the other 'Cube games,Y is inventory,C stick does a 180 etc and unlike RE2 and Nemesis the auto-aim is enabled from the start.
Excellent.

This is worth getting if you are collecting all the resident evil games. Taking place after resident evil 2, the series continues to be just as addictive and exciting as the previous games. Great graphics, great gameplay and the controls are not that bad.
You get quite a few jumpy bits in the game and there is loads to do within the game. This is worth getting if you are a resident evil fan!!

Picking up a few months after the events of resi 2 Claire Redfield investigating a umbrella facility in Europe is captured & imprisoned on Rockfort island the prison is attacked & the virus is once against set loose Claire attempts to escape the island while her brother Chris sets out to find her & settle a score with former S.T.A.R.S traitor Albert Wesker.
Code veronica x is a classic resi in every sense of the word complete with puzzles, herbs, typewriters & huge mutated freaks though its much longer than the others with a massive prison & an antarctic base to explore.
This is a port of the ps2 version & if you have a ps2 there is no point at all in buying this on GC but if you don't there's every reason to buy it a great game not quiet as good as the originals add in a extra battle game mode for more bang for your buck you get a dam good resident evil game.

I have enjoyed Resident Evil since played Resi 2 on the PSone. I currently own Resident Evil (remake for gamecube), Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil 4 and this. I think capcom originally rushed this game onto the ps2 because they could. The story line looks dated and unoriginal. still a good second hand purchase

4 out of 5 stars Could have done with some additions...   July 20, 2005

OK, don't get me wrong with this title, its a great game! But.. it feels old, just like RE 2&3 on the Gamecube. I mean, it could have done with a graphic update or even new areas like with RE1 on the 'Cube. But anyway, despite no sort of updates its still an essentail RE game for any fan of the series!

This game is the sequel to the famous Resident Evil 2, it is Claire's story after the inncident in Racoon City. Just like RE4 is Leon's sequel to RE2. After Claire reads Chris'(her brother) diary in RE 2 and escapes from the city, she decides to go to Europe to look for him. But as she infiltrates a Umbrella Facillity she gets caught and sent to an island prison... Only to be let out by the guard! I won't explain any more of the story as it may spoil it for those who have not yet played the game. But this game takes the Resident Evil story line even further and many fans will want to play this game purly for the story! (I was no exception!) And anyone who played this will not be disapointed either. Just beware the final boss on this game! It took me several tries to kill it! (yeah ok, I know... I suck =P)

I recommend that if you are new to Resident Evil, that you play Resident Evil Zero, then progress through the games as they follow (RE, 2, 3, CV and finally 4). The RE storyline really is a classic and I will probably never forget it no matter how old I get.

All in all, a great game. Fun to play and get invovled with. Capcom also decided to keep the same controls as usual and the same annoying yet cool camera angles.
