A good start for a Boxing Manager Game January 24, 2008 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Most of us boxing fans have ben crying out for a boxing equivalent of Football Manager, with the miniscule (ie 3) releases often being little more than a means to set up tournamntes or bouts with little structure and certainly nothing like the Management depth that we would like. Infact up until recently the only decent Manager Game has actually been World Championship Boxing Manager (a former Commodore 64 title from the mid eighties) on emulation. This is a good start though and gives you the ability to create, train, promote and manage your fighter from pretty much every aspect. You can even witness the fight itself and give between rounds instructions etc. Of all the management games this is truly the most comprehensive. That said there are a few problems, the options when creating a fighter are limited (which results in very odd looking fighters), the 'viewable' boxing matches are terrible with your bizaare creations herky jerkying all over the place (which ruins any sense of realism) and the media/fighter interaction is no way near the scope of the football manager games.
All in all this is the best boxing management game currently and a great start off point for other game deisgners to work from (we must remember that football manager started off as champ manager back in 1992 and its taken 15 years to reach the levels it has). Yes it has its floors however these can be overlooked as this is a good first attempt.
Graphics: 2/5 - terrible character models Sound: 2/5 - Game tune grates after a while Options: 3/5 - comprehensive Playability 4/5 - Lots to do Re-Play value 4/5 - Creating and managing a stable of fighters others an infinte number of possibilities. Rating against Competition (ie other boxing manager titles) - Leader
