Amazon.co.uk Review How many movies offer the rare spectacle of a parasailing pink starfish flying over a crowd with a congratulatory pennant clenched between his buttcheeks? And that's only the tip of the iceberg--The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie is a freewheeling goof of a cartoon, full of surreal twists as its diminutive heroes head down a dangerous road to rescue the lost crown of King Neptune. SpongeBob (voiced by Tom Kenny), an arrested adolescent in the mold of Pee-wee Herman, works at a fast-food restaurant that serves something called Krabby Patties (as the restaurant owner is himself a crab, it's not clear what exactly they're made of). His best friend Patrick Starfish (Bill Fagerbakke) lives under a rock and has an IQ in the lower digits. Still, their friendship carries them through many a tight spot as they strive for manliness. Anyone seeking a coherent world will be disappointed; in this undersea adventure, things catch on fire or seem to be surrounded by air whenever it's convenient for a gag. The jokes are often more silly than actually funny, but there's an undeniably energetic joviality to the proceedings. Featuring the voices of Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Tambor, Alec Baldwin, and a fully fleshed appearance by David Hasselhoff. --Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com

I'm 53 and this movie has to be the best one I've seen in years. Spongebob should run for President for heavens sake !
I LOVE BEING PURPLE!!!!!! February 17, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I can safetly say when my rather pretencious movie watching brother brought home Spongebob the movie I laughed my ass off, myself being one of the poor unfortunates that hadn't seen the film or the Nickelodeon TV series. After he explained that it was really funny for adults aswell I decided to give it a go. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. The humour can be quite riddiculas, slap stick and low brow but frankley who cares! If you don't laugh at Patrick Starfish flying in by parachute with a banner wedged between his buttcheeks you should be studied. Strangely the music is hysterical and catchy aswell ('Now that were men we have facial hair, Now that were men I changed my underwear'). All in all I say feed that little potty mouthed inner child of yours with this because it's fantastic and trust me you will find yourself singing the songs absentmindedly. 'I'M A GOOFY GOOBER YEAH!'Just buy it and you'll understand!
He's ready, he's ready ... for the big screen! February 2, 2007 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
I initially thought that this was too ambitious and that a movie-length Spongebob outing would be too much. On watching it though I have to admit that it was almost perfectly judged - just the right length, jokes pitched for kids and adults, good story. Whilst some adults may find moronic Patrick just too frustrating, this is a good movie that most adults will not find too much of a chore to watch with the kids!
If you like Spongebob then you'll more than likely find this movie enjoyable and funny. If you hate Spongebob - avoid it like the plague!
Dissapointed January 31, 2007 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
I am a big fan of Spongebob, he would always crack me up watching the cartoons.
But this movie wasnt very good at all. There were some scenes that made me laugh but the overall structure of the film dissapointed me.
Perhaps I expected to much from this film.
A well loved film in our house!!! October 5, 2006 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I'm 34 - love it. Husband is 38 - loves it. Daughter is 3 - loves it. She even turned round to me one day and said "hello. I like money." A must for catchphrases such as, "don't think we don't know how to weeeeed em out", or "too bad Spongebob's not here to enjoy Spongebob not being here". Loads of 'em that me and the daughter frequently enter into our ridiculous conversations! To the forty year old who's review I noticed - my mother-in-law is 62 and she's a huge fan!!
