Super Off Road September 22, 2008 I bought this game pretty much just to play on Super Off Road - a classic top down racer for up to 3 players. I still love this game as much as I did when it was on the SNES, for top fun play multiplayer. The Track Pack is a great bonus and was new to me. A hint for this though is on the screen showing the controls go to options and set continues to infinate, if you don't do this after one bad race the game is over!
Off Road Thunder and Hydro Thunder were Sega Saturn games I think, so they are far more modern looking and 3D. You can tell that they use the same games engine though and they're not very realistic. That said, Off Road Thunder is quite good fun.
The San Francisco Rush games may have worked at the arcade but here they feel very detatched.
Out of control fun!!! November 17, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ignore the review below.. This compilation is incredibly good value. For your 1.75 plus postage you get the original Sanfrancisco Rush, Rush 2049, Hydro Thunder plus a few other mediocre titles not worth mentioning.
If you owned a Dreamcast you will have heard of Hydro Thunder. While it's true it is pretty much a bread and butter over the top arcade racing game, it is also a bread and butter over the top arcade racing game of the highest quality.
Frisco Rush is pretty much in the same vein as Hydro Thunder only with cars instead of boats. The jewel in the crown however is undoubtedly Rush 2049.
Rush 2049 is the sequel to San Francisco Rush, one of the most exaggerated arcade racers ever devised. The simple idea: race through the streets of San Francisco against a pack of opposing drivers while dealing with some of the wildest physics ever implemented in a racing game. Cars can, and frequently do, sail hundreds of feet into the air off jumps and bumps in the street, and San Francisco works in this fictional recreation because, well, if you've ever seen this city, it's pretty cartoon-like in its terrain all ready.
Where Rush 2049 excels over the original is in with the refined gameplay mechanics giving you more control over your vehicle and the spot on level design. If you like your racing games more Ridge Racer than Gran Turismo and you own an Xbox then you could do a hell of a lot worse than spend less than five pounds on this compilation.
An oldy but definitely not a goody March 14, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Some games age remarkably well. I still have some old amiga games that are fun to play. Games like Asteroids and Space Invaders can still provide entertainment. However this collection of games definitely does not fall into this category. There are 8 racing games of which most are instantly forgetable. The only one that provides any entertainment is Hydro Thunder which I used to play on my old Dreamcast. I loved it then but time has not been kind to it and it is just about OK now. The rest of the games on this collection are just not worth it anymore especially when you have seen the kind of racing games that are available for the XBOX now i.e... Project Gotham Racing, Forza Motorsport. I know this is hardly a fair comparison but you just can't help it I am afraid. The games on this collection are simply too old and basic to be worth paying for and this game will be going straight back to my local game shop in the morning.
