This is a great game - the music is very good, the voice acting above the norm and, although it rips off lots of others, the story's good too. I was a bit sceptical about this due to the fact I couldn't remember it coming out, and the bad reviews it got on some game-review websites;
Its true,
* the graphics aren't great; they jitter in cut scenes.
* the audio isn't great; sometimes you can't hear what the people are saying.
* flick-targetting does sometimes get in the way and slow you down.
However, I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable game - the battles were great and it was great fun gaining all the powers and using them against the bad guys, the shield being a favourite.
Also (and I really like this in a game- Hitman:Blood Money does it too, if you didn't already know) stay tuned after the credits, there's still something to take care of!
Summary; 5*'s cos this is a hidden gem- I couldn't put it down till it was completed, and 3*'s overall due to the production- xbox can handle far more demanding games than this no problem; Half Life2, Doom3, Riddick, etc etc.

This is a good, fun, enjoyable game. In a few reviews its lost out because its graphics aren't quite so plush as some believe they should be but as far as I'm concerend, the visuals are fine.
It has a few rough edges; the jarring cutting between the cut-scenes; the occasional lock-up during a cut-scene and a few other niggly points. Strangely, I've found the X-Box the oen console most similiar to PC's in that its games suffer from little bugs that can detract from enjoying the game itself (COC Dark Corners of the Earth is another example)
That said, Advent Rising has a wonderful plot that draws you and makes you really want to find out what's going on.
By the time I got my psychic powers sorted I no longer wanted to use guns; lifting things up and throwing them into the air or blasting them with aeon-pulses is much more fun. In that regard its like the Jedi Knight games for the PC; once you get force-powers and a lightsaber, blasters just don't cut it.

Avent rising is incredible! in the reviews that you may have read, it gets low scores because the graphics may not be as good as some other games, but the special effects, among other things, are more than enough to redeem it. The music is fantastic, it has a great orchestral score and good voice actors to accompany an epic story. The controls are easy to use and the upgrade system is very rewarding. In all, advent rising is a fantastic game, it has a great story, good graphics, excellent music and voice actors and the action doesn't slow at all. This is a must for anyone looking for an original and clever game, look no further.
