Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Sonic brings his trademark speed and attitude to the Nintendo Wii in his first solo adventure since 1991. In Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic finds himself in the colorful and vibrant world of the Arabian Nights tales.

Amazon.co.uk Review:
In a nutshell:
Sonic the Hedgehog is going back to basics with a straight up 3D race game that ditches all the guns, vehicles and hangers-on from the more recent games and concentrates on pure speed and platform action.

The lowdown:
The blue speedster has come a long way since the Mega Drive days, a bit too far some would say - since many of his more recent games bear little relation to his original platform antics. This looks a lot more like the old games though (even though it's got a weird Arabian Nights back story) as you simply move left and right with the Wii Remote and use the '2' button to jump. You can also reverse up by tilting the remote and do a homing attack on enemies by lifting the controller up vertically, but that and a slowly filling turbo boost bar is as complicated as things get. The graphics though are anything but basic and some of the best yet seen on the Wii, with a great sense of speed that's vital to any good Sonic game.

Most exciting moment:
Despite the storyline taking place in a dream world based on the Arabian Nights the game doesn't exactly stick close to the original text. One of the best levels is filled with dinosaurs and has you outrunning a series of giant lizards before getting catapulted through a waterfall and enjoying a break neck white water rapids run on the back of a log.

Since you ask:
Although Sonic is the only playable character in the game, according to Sega another of his friends will feature in the game, but portrayed in "a different light". Archenemy Dr Robotnik/Eggman is also promised to make an appearance in some form.

The bottom line:
Sonic returns to his roots in his best looking 3D game for ages.-HARRISON DENT

4 out of 5 stars Sonic returns...nearly...   November 9, 2008
Sonic at the Secret rings is ultimately a fun experience depending on how you approach it. If you've never liked Sonic games then the chances are that this wont really change your mind. Its the first on-rails Sonic game, and actually is a lot of fun, and boost the Wii graphics with some great artistic backrounds. The only faults however is its camera which can be horrible at times, and the controls. The camera is great when your going forward but as soon as you go backwards, its a different story. You are ultimately going backwards blind folded, as the camera is always behind you, not in front. The controls can get VERY frustrating at times, especially when you try and go back or stop. Sonic is moving all the time, and its hard to do exactly what you want at points.

That said its one of the best 3D Sonic games out there, behind Sonic adventure. And compared to SEGA's attempts to make exclusive games for next gen, its pretty descent.

4 out of 5 stars Good for playing with friends   October 13, 2008
The story mode is kind of weird but after an hour or two, you get used to it. It is very different to other sonic games as its multiplayer mode can take up to four people and the mini games are much more competitive.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty good Sonic game! Shame it's on-rails though.   August 23, 2008
This was one of my first Wii games, and it isn't bad either! There's Sonic only gameplay to be expected here, so some who hated the abundance of other characters will really like it. However this game is completely on-rails, which makes it very different from other Sonic games. Also, there's a whole Arabian feel to it, and the levels reflect this. The music and graphics are very nice, and Party mode is fun and hilarious. There's also a Special book where, by completing certain missions, you get concept art, music, medals and more! I'd say this game is definitely better than Sonic 06 by far.

That doesn't mean it hasn't got its fair share of flaws though. Most of these are that Shahra, the character who gives you hints and such, gets very annoying after a while especially when she goes on and on in any stage you're playing. Also, at first the controls are pretty hard, but you get used to them after a while. Then there's the whole RPG skills element thing, which really doesn't fit with the game. And it's silly that at the beginning of the game Sonic is slow as a snail, but once you level up more and more he'll get faster and earn better skills and stuff. Some stages can be very tedious too and the bosses (particularily the last one) are an annoyance.

Overall I say the fun factor of this game is alright, and the game itself is just good. Of course this game isn't the best since Sonic Adventure 2, but it's a good Sonic game either way and is FAR better than Sonic 06.

2 out of 5 stars Just Plain Awkward   August 18, 2008

I use to have a Sega Gamegear when I was growing up and use to play Sonic none stop.
So when I got my Wii, this was the first game I pick up and could hardly wait to get the packaging off.

1.)The main let down with this game is the player simply does not have full control.Sonic speeds along through out the stages and you simply till the controls left or right to control the direction, you also get to press A to jump. (yipe!)

2.) I found playing to be less fun and more fiddly, than it needed to be.

3.) The sub menus where the most irritating thing of this game.

4.) If you hoping to pick this up for any under 10years, don't bother, game play will be much to challenge to really have any fun. feels more like homework.

Overall, if you ever played Sonic and was hoping to recapture that awesome control and speed, then try another game. This version is just plain annoying.

Loved the old Sonic games and this does not dissapoint!

You need to get through the first levels and then Sonic becomes more agile and fun. Many new levels and worlds open up.

Felt like giving up on the game at first! So glad i didnt. As it progresses into a great game!

Recommend it :D
