Amazon.co.uk Review
In a nutshell: The Getaway series expands onto mobiles with an all-new spin-off that marries strategic grabs for territory with all out gang violence on the streets of the capital. With a suite of multiplayer modes and a 60 level single player this will keep you playing longer than the PS2 originals. The lowdown: Although it’s set in the same universe as The Getaway this is no simple port or sequel, but a whole new game that moves away from the series’ Grand Theft Auto inspired roots. Although the game does feature vehicle driving it’s more focused on combat as you take down enemies with a range of guns and other weapons – even using passers-bys as human shields. There’s also a strong tactical element to the game as you ferry fellow gang members across town to act as back-up in the most hotly contested areas of the city. And if you ever get sick of that there’s even a bunch of two player pub mini-games to relax with, including darts and skittles. Most exciting moment: The free roaming mode works a lot more like the original The Getaway games, since it lets you explore the virtual London however you want – with or without police and other gangs’ interference. Just like the originals the streets and buildings are modelled exactly like the real thing. Since you ask: Although the game is being developed by Sony’s London studio, the same team is also working on a PlayStation 3 sequel, which appears to be at least partially set in Amsterdam. The bottom line: Old London town has never been more dangerous in this new strategy shooter. HARRISON DENT

The Getaway Goes Portable July 26, 2008 Loved 'The Getaway' on playstation 2 - it's one of the best games ever once you get into it and 'Gangs Of London' is a brilliant variation of it. Most of the missions only last a few minutes so it's good to pick up and indulge in a spot of harmless violence whenever you feel like it. Recreations are good and there's the usual free roam mode so you can just drive about and knock the occassional pedestrian over! This title has just been released on Platinum so has sold enough copies to warrant that status despite mostly negative reviews but if you enjoyed 'The Getaway' then you should also find this fun. The pub game extras are good also - Darts is brilliant. Graphics are great, controls are easy to learn and all in all this is a fun way to waste a few minutes every now and then. 8 out of 10
Irresponsible and childish May 15, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I find this game deeply offensive. In a time when London is over-run with these petty criminals who need to bolster their fragile egos with posturing they've learnt off MTV the last thing any of us need is more glorification of their lifestyles. This is a cynical, sad attempt to make money.
Wow. April 28, 2008 I honestly don't see how anyone could really name and shame this game, it is possibly one of the most varied and unique games on the PSP that anyone could possibly get their hands on.
I ordered this game used of Amazon a while back, only to never play it. One day, I though I'd place it inside my PSP to solve my boredom, and oh my god! What a game it well and truely is.
I won't brag so much about it, all I have to say is that if you want a really decent game for the PSP which you'll find yourself addicted to in a matter of ten minutes, then look no futher at all.
Strengths: -Amazing graphics -Realisitic handling in cars -Varied weapons -Large map -Mini games which are also addictive -Hours of fun
This is no 'port' of the getaway as one reader suggested. It is much more than the getaway on one, smaller console! Top notch!
Poor Mans Vice City April 8, 2007 Its obvious that gangs Of London have tried to copy the Grand Theft Auto theme of dragging people out of cars etc but this game seems to have so many flaws. When I first bought it I found it very addictive but thats not the problem. The problem is that you get bored with it very quickly and rather persevere to complete the missions you would rather just store the game away and probably never play it again. I think that corners were cut financially by using cartoon-style stills with audio instead of movie cut-scenes and the game probably doesnt even use up 25% of the psp's capabilities. I think that Gangs is exclusive to the psp console which is better than people keep making poor and limited versions of ps2 games which dont cross over well onto the psp, but they need to be better than this.

After reading all the reviews that were sort of undecisive about how good the game was i still decided to get it.
The game starts off well and you get to choose a gang, each having different attributes. But after the first five missions or so you can see the progress of the rest of the game, short and reptitive. It took about half an hour for me to wipe out one gang. There are 6 types of mission, defend, prtoect, assault, chase, lose the tail and kidknap. Defend and assault are literally all about how many people you can kill, just guns no cars, extremely boring after the first one. Chase, lose the tail and kidnap are all drving based, going round in a car doing what it says on the tin. Finally protect some times has a mixture of both. These missions come about time and time again just in different locations.
The extras are pretty good but nothing to make you buy particulary for them, the free roam is quite poor as killing stuff is boring after the missions. The tourist mode is a laugh but again very short and repetitive. There are couple others but nothing special.
Overall i finished the game in a day and a half and have near enough completed all the extras too. All in all i wouldnt say it is worth the money.
