Great Fun March 20, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you are looking for something different, this is the game for you. You can ride around all day on your horse, completing tasks or just hang about in the saloon gambling. The tasks are challenging and great fun. They range from arresting and jailing to escorting the stagecoach across the sandy desert where you will encounter the indians. You also have mini tasks where you do jobs for people, taking their horse to the stables ( timed challenge ). killing all the bad guys for the sheriff is a good one, you can earn money and buy different items. A must for all you cowboys and cowgirls out there!
The good, some bad and the glitches December 7, 2006 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
I'm writing this review based solely on the PSP version of the game.
Contrary to a number of press reviews the controls for this game aren't as bad as they make them out to be. You do have to stick with it for 10-15 minutes but once you get the hang of things they're not that bad considering the psp has only one analog stick. If you are having problems with the targeting then the best thing to do is to go and do some gold mining and then up grade your 'Quickdraw' as soon as possible. This makes things a lot easier.
The graphics are pretty good but the towns are like ghost towns and it seems the only time anyone sets foot outside is to have a go at you. It's not only the towns that are empty but pretty much the whole of the Wild West. This is no GTA where there is always something going on.
The big problem with this game is the riding. Frequently during missions you have to get from A to B as quickly as possible and I'm afraid the game just doesn't keep up and you are faced with a 'loading' message. I found this to be really annoying.
Apart from the above problem, there are a couple of glitches here and there which unless you pay a quick visit to gamefaqs.com you'll begin to wonder if you are ever going to get past a particular point in the game. Although I must say 'glitches' in games these days seem to be more and more common and are probably the result of lazy testing or publishers who are keen to get a game out before its ready.
On a more postive note I would say this game is well worth buying. There are a number of extras included on the psp version that aren't available on the different console versions. So if you fancy something different from GTA go for it, it's not that often that you get the chance to be a gunslinger in the Wild West.
