1 out of 5 stars An absolute disgrace   November 22, 2008
This game could have been very good. It has a not bad career mode, six rallys each with seven stages and a host of other events. The controls are fully customisable, a must in any modern driving game, and you set the difficulty level before each event so if something is a bit too difficult for you or you just want to get through it easily you can choose an easier level.

But the graphics are an absolute disgrace. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't look too bad, it is the framerate that is the problem. I have a PS3, a modern state of the art games machine, so why are Codemasters releasing something so slow and jerky that it wouldn't even be acceptable on an old Atari ST?

This game slows down when you try to look behind you, almost locking up on occasions, it slows down if cars crash in front of you, which wouldn't be so bad if it was fast in the first place but it's not! At it's best I would guess it may get to 30fps but at it's worse I would bet it's not more than 10fps.

This of course affects the handling which becomes just as twitchy and jerky as the graphics are. And I'm sorry but in this day and age with the hardware I am using that is just not acceptable.

It seems to me that all Codemasters have done is port this over from other platforms purely to cash in on sales while they "develop" the next title in the series. All I can say is don't buy it. Don't allow Codemasters to get away with seliing rubbish like this.

4 out of 5 stars Best rally game yet for the PS3   October 26, 2008
Well, I'm not all that far from completing this game in career mode and i must say that I've really enjoyed it. However, I wish they hadn't have used Colin McRae's name to sell it. Speaking as a fan of his previous games on the ps2 I had hoped that the WRC would feature in the career mode, hope the game wood feature his old imprezas or his WRC Focus but all you see is his name up on leaderboards throughout the game.

Also, I wish the developers could've changed the voice over for the uk game from the cheesy yank tones and phrases of travis pastrana as they grate more than a grinding disc on the face.

It would've been nice as another reviewer said to see stages in the country which has produced more rally heros than anywhere else, being Finland feature. Also, a snow stage or 2 in Sweden wouldn't have gone amiss.

On the flipside though there are some epic cars in it including three of the group B monsters of the 80's including the epic Audi Quattro S1 with its distinctive 5-cylinder engine note & busy turbo whistle.

Next time codemasters, let us see McRae & some of his old cars and lets hear Nicky Grist co-driving instead of some american cheeser that doesn't know that motorsport freatures corners in both directions!!

5 out of 5 stars Play the pyramid on PRO difficulty, and you realize the incredible potential of this game   July 31, 2008
Dear all,

Just a quick review... Recently, I finished playing Dirt, Career Mode.
After 6 months, I managed to win all the tracks in the hardest difficulty of all, "Pro" Level.

And let me tell you that this was one of the best games I played in my life. When you play it in PRO, not only you learn to avoid crashes (because the car wrecks), but most important: to know each and every track, in full detail.

And what a pleasure this is, for driving game fans, like me.
Each personal best is automatically published on-line, so, it's quite rewarding, with some luck and skills, to see times in the top 100, say, among 40.000 people.

I played on PS3 with a Logitech G25 wheel, connected to a 42" Plasma. I believe this setup is great.

Just out of curiosity: my previous game was Formula One Championship (more than 700 hours of gameplay, another 5 star game) and now I ventured into GRID, which I'm loving.

In between I drove NFS Carbon (blargh - too arcade) and GT5 Prologue (blargh - hitting the fences proves better than taking the turn, how can this be possible???)

I'm also very curious about FERRARI CHALLENGE, looks good.

5 out of 5 stars The Greatest Rally Game yet created   April 27, 2008
A truly great game, now in memory of a truly great driver. CM: dirt in corperates many different styles of off-road racing which add a fullness to the game which hasn't been present in its prequels (although they are great games).
Diehard Conventional rally fans can experience all the classics, most notably the red, green and white Toyota Corolla. Whereas newcomers can enjoy the easy but extremely addictive baja-style buggies along with lorry-racing.
Summary: If you've even conceived it, they've done it. An inspiring multi-faceted game

5 out of 5 stars amazing game, just 2% away from perfection .   March 11, 2008

Truly amazing ! by far the greatest rally experience you'll ever play .
there's one or two things that the game lacks but that won't stop it from being the greatest rallying game you'll ever play !
you gets some of the greast rally cars ever to be built ,
from Colin McRae's very own mk2 escort upto his own designed R4 .
there's some ot the most detailed enviroments you'll ever lay your eyes on .
the characteristics of the cars are truly magnificent , no two cars handle the same , you can feel that right away .
all stages are unique , australia has definitely got everything you want , fast narrow stages beetween the rows of tress , the lighting effects gorgeous ,
it gets the adrenalin pumping flying down these narrow tracks flat out . tress
either side of you sun dancing beetween them , knowing that if you make a
mistake then everything could come to end there and then !
where else could you find that in a rally game to date ? Nowhere , except
Colin McRae Dirt !
car set up is by far one ot the best , each different set up depends on the stage
it's seif and your own knowledge , what may seem alright in shakedown may vary on the stage itself . brilliant ! this game is for the true die-hard rally fan.
the only minnor inconvenience that i can find are there is no finland ,
you need finland in the McRae games , and the co-driver could do with a kick
up the butt once in awhile for some of his wrong notes , you've played it
you'll know what bits i'm talkin' 'bout .
this game will definitely always be one of the greatest !
And it always stand as a tribute to the late
Colin McRae M.B.E
