False advertising September 27, 2008 I should really have read the other reviews on Amazon before buying this game, as they would have told me that it is a first person shooter with no roleplay in sight, the game box certainly doesn't. In fact you have to look very hard to find out that it is only an online game, not one you can play on your own. In general, not good at all and very misleading if you don't read any reviews beforehand or have played other Shadowrun games, including the tabletop roleplay.
Avoid at all costs August 16, 2008 This is a real disappointment. A great franchise ruined by appalling execution. The game is essentially a poor Quake clone. Avoid like the plague.
A Good solid Game for the Strategic FPS player. December 22, 2007 This game is, despite the reviews, very good. I knew nothing of shadowrun until I picked this game up and noticed i could play 360 players. That enough sold it to me. I already own a 360 and the idea i could play my brother while he was playing my 360 and i was on my computer was ace!
The game is really a class based online game with no real single player except a training mode, but i expected this, whereas some reviews found this a shock (don't know why...it wasn't a secret). The game revolves around the idea that magic has been reawakened and there are two groups fighting over these magical "artifacts". Like capture the flag each team has to capture the artifact and take it to the escape point or extration point depending on which team you are. There is always a team deathmatch option called attrition. The classes you can be are: Human, Dwarf, Elf and Troll each with there own ability and speciailities all with the ability to use the same magic spells like reserect and Teleport.
Playing over a lan is BRILLIANT! it works perfectly with no lag. Over the internet most games have a good conection, but when you enconter a game with a bad conection, the game becomes very VERY fustating very quickly.
The game is exactly like the 360 version, which is anoying on the PC. So you have to have a Microsoft Gamertag etc and if you want to play aginst Xbox 360 players you have to have a gold account 5/$5. You can play for free on dedicated servers and then invite xbox players in, but the servers in the most part are very laggy and are not 24/7.
If you already have a Gamertag i would say its definitly a must have Games for windows Live! game. If you don't fancy the idea of paying for a Gamertag and/or are happy on a silver one, don't get this game, you need a gold account to get the most out of this game.
A really underated game just because you have to think in an FPS.
Vista July 14, 2007 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
At least there are games for Vista. All the games I'm interested in are all on XP...I've even come across expansion packs which you can use for Vista, but the original game which you need to have to use the expanision pack is XP or lower...Silly way of marketing, if you ask me!
Not that great July 7, 2007 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
DX10 only to MAKE you buy VISTA. Many DX9 games look 10X better, nothing special Gameplay single player is a joke. Multiplayers Ok,but done better in loads of games that you don't have to pay extra just to play online. This game WILL die in 6 months it does not have enough built in "content"(too few maps) to have last the long haul. Its no CounterStrike,Battlefield or even Quake4 and with HL2 Teamfortress round the corner...save your cash.
