Top Spin 3 is a fantastic all-round tennis game. I stress the word tennis, as if you aren't really a tennis fan, but want a tennis game I'd go for Virtua Tennis.
The thing about this game is that it takes time to learn the basics and even more time to master them. It is also a slow game, but this doesn't take away from the awesome fun you can have. The fun, for me, comes in learning how to hit the more advanced shots, and eventually going on to the 5th set against Federer or Nadal on a high difficulty setting. The graphics and gameplay are excellent aswell, compared to Virtua Tennis, which is more like an arcade game and doesn't take long to master.
Single player on Top Spin 3 is excellent, and the career mode is well structured. However, one mode that isn't too good is offline multiplayer, against your friends. The game is so difficult to get the hang of that you can't just play it with your mates in the same way as, for example, Smash Court Tennis 2 on PS2. However, if you want to play multiplayer then from what I've heard the online mode is good.
One small, but annoying fault, is the menu music. The music itself is not bad, but limited. It ranges from Stone Roses to Calvin Harris, but overall there aren't enough tracks. In addition, pretty much everytime you switch menu screens the track changes, meaning that you only ever get the first 3-20 seconds of a song. This is a really basic fault and may not seem a big deal but it really does your head in after a while...
Overall this game is excellent, especially if you are a big tennis fan.

First of all I must say how much better top spin 3 is compared to Virtua Tennis 3.The graphics are fantastic I mean my sister thought it was a real tennis match the first time she saw it.This is by far the best tennis game out,and i'd recommend this to anyone.

Sorry, if this is realistic to tennis, I'm not sure what game it is you see on Wimbledon etc..
I didn't get to grips with this game and promptly sold it off, gameplay is soooo slow, the fast and furious tennis of real-life is replaced by a park life hit and hope. Federer plays like your gran it's that slow.
Games by 2008 should know how to do a soundtrack and sound effects, but in Top Spin you get 1995 style scores and nothing else. Follow something like Fifa and get some proper commentary - it's not that hard.
Players - well you get some - about 15 - gets a bit boring playing the same players game in game out - please try and get at least 20 licenses for male and female next time.
If you love tennis, you might well like this, but I didn't at all. I'll give Top Spin 4 a try and hope it's better than this.

I have had Smash Court Tennis 2 and Virtua Tennis 3 and was waiting for Vitrtua Tennis 4 and decided to see what Top Spin 3 was like.
Having played Virtua tennis it is a little difficult to change between the two games, mainly because on Virtua tennis it is impossible to hit the net and it is impossible to hit the ball out, no matter how badly you time the shot the ball will go in.
On Top Spin 3 however, if you miss time the shot, you will either not get it quite where you want it or hit it out or at the net, if you go for a high risk shot and miss time it, you will not get it in. It is hard to pick up on but with determination time and patience you will be a match winner and it is great, seeing the red exhausted faces, the dirt on your shorts, and the sweat down your front and back at the end of the games, or even in the middle. It even goes into as much detail as when you are playing on clay and can't quite get there, you can slide accross the clay in a last gasp effort to get the ball.
One last thing to mention would be to all those people who have an Xbox and are looking to get this game. If you are wanting Rafa Nadal forget it, he only appears in the PS3 version, it serves you right for purchasing an xbox really.

listened to reviews on here but hey this is one bad game you have to press the button before the ball gets anywhere near you , how that realistic god knows its going on ebay.
