Amazon.co.uk Review Exploring 20 square miles of African savannah and jungle is never an easy task. But when you’re up against an army of highly trained mercenaries, the danger becomes unimaginable. Welcome to the world of Far Cry 2. Far Cry 2 has some of the best explosions in the business | Vehicles are great for cover as well as transport | It’s best to keep some of the game’s factions on your side | The environmental graphics are both stunning and highly varied | It’s been over four years since the release of the first Far Cry, and Far Cry 2 has almost nothing in common with it beyond being a first-person shooter with excellent graphics and advanced artificial intelligence. It’s by a different developer, and you now play one of eight different mercenary characters out to catch an arms dealer nicknamed “The Jackal.” The sci-fi enemies have also been jettisoned in favour of a much more realistic game where survival skills are just as important as a good aim. The rules of engagement--either by stealth or all guns blazing--are entirely up to you. Key Features - Virtual safari: The game features 20 square miles of terrain for you to travel, filled with realistic fauna and flora and fully destructible trees and buildings.
- Fiery realism: With an all-new graphics engine created just for the game, fire moves and propagates exactly as in real-life, with vegetation breaking and snapping realistically.
- The coming storm: A dynamic weather system changes to reflect your mood, with the sky turning dark and stormy during bad times.
- Jungle survival: Highly realistic weapons degrade with use, bullets need to be dug out of your body, and vehicles break down if pushed beyond their limits.
- Buying friends: Meet and co-operate with fellow mercenaries as you pit different factions against one another in a war-torn African state.
About the Developer: Ubisoft Montreal Ubisoft’s huge development studio in Canada has created many of the French publisher’s biggest hits, including the Splinter Cell,/i> series, the modern Prince of Persia games, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Assassin’s Creed, Naruto: Rise of a Ninja and the Far Cry sequels and spin-offs.

huge game area.. November 23, 2008 Brilliant game! At first it seems to be a little clunky, and had I written this review after 30 minutes gameplay, it may only have got 3 stars. But after several days, I really enjoy it!
Poor RPG try Mass effect or The Elder Scrolls Oblivion November 14, 2008 Im now on my 3rd playthrough on the xbox 360 however its not because it is an entertaining game im just trying to get all the xbox 360 gamerscore from its single player.
Single Player This game as you may have heard is very slow playing which is true but can be slightly helped by using the bus stations located around the map. However the main story line is stupid written and very repetative and doesnt really allow for much replayability. I also heard that the story was open ended and I beleived this to mean once you had finished you could continue playing on the same character which you cant. The A.I is also very repetative as they respawn virtually after they are out of eyesight. There are also quite a few bugs to do with enemys shooting in a different direction but still hitting you, which is not the worst part of the enemys that is their ability to take a whole clip of AK-47 and still shooot back at you.
Multiplayer This is very boring no ability for partys, only 4 game types and grenade launcher is unlocked at level 2. So why shoot a whole clip of AK-47 when you can just fire grenades all the time.
All in all a really over hyped game, if your looking for a good RPG I would recomend Mass Effect or The Elder Scrolls Oblivion which are less repetative, last alot longer, have a much better character system and a high level of replayablity.

Far Cry 2 (Xbox 360) After the excellent Far Cry I was really looking forward to the sequel, but what a disapoinment! Far Cry- more like GTA in the Jungle! Stunning looking and well populated but tedious easy missions (on two occasions I reached the mission destination only to be told I'd completed the objectives! Seems I missed all the fun-should've driven faster perhaps?! The side missions from the arms shops were even worse and I gave up running around the countryside looking for diamonds as the view was hidden by the map. This is the 4th poor game I've had this year, so what's going on?
Give it time November 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I saw the sandbox and stealth element to this game - I loved the idea of sniping from afar and whatnot, however, I also saw continuous one star reviews from other gamers about how guff it was. Still, I threw caution to the wind, but it on impulse and wanted to sell it within an hour of playing it. Still, something had me carry on, did a few more missions, got more of a feel to the game, unlocked more weapons and so on, and now I'm on it every second that I'm home, Give it time, trawl your way through the first couple of missions, and the rest are pretty good, The scenes are really nice, the Characters Diary is pretty enjoyable to look through, the missions aren't the most varied I've seen, but I'm Far from saying they're repetitive or not fun There's a good range of weapons - Never seen a mortar used in a game before now, theres, after a while quite a bit of Character and fun in this game, I must admit. However, must say, it does not feel like the final release of a game, maybe a beta, but it's dissapointing in some respects for a final release. I haven't been able to find much in terms of a story, and there could have been a brilliant one here. You play as the "Strong Silent Type" which, though, may woo the ladies, I'd rather play the game with responses from my Character, maybe some choices to make and so on. Although it was briefly explained at the beginning, so far I've seen random people that want to Kill me, and People in the main City that are waiting for you to make a move so they have an excuse to kill you - I'd much prefer if there was some from of culture in this game - give a little more interest, and maybe empathy - some higher cause to complete each mission. The stealth, is either glitchy, or faaar to advanced for me, but sneaking behind people and killing them - alerts nearby enemies. Silence pistol - alerts enemy, sniper, mortar and so on all get you caught, I did one mission without killing anyone, picked up the objective and it worked like a tracking beacon - all of the enemy piled into me, still, the "Your Character has far too much health" compliments this. theres a few.. what i'd say guff parts to the game - Overall, it feels like a Great game, but at the same time, a tester to some more refined game to see how people react. I'd recomend it though
A good game, but no classic November 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game got great reviews in the media, but although it is a good game it is not as good as it is hyped up to be. I don't intend to put people off buying this game as overall it is enjoyable and certain elements such as setting things on fire are great fun. But at times it seems like (as has been mentioned before) more work has gone into the environment than the gameplay. I have enjoyed this game, but I think people should be aware of the following:
The controls feel like they have been ported over from a PC version. Aiming is sluggishly slow and then too jerky and fast, with no graduation in between. This can be problematic in the middle of a gunfight.
Dying is often very annoying and does not always seem like your fault. (And no this is not true in all games...)
All weapons are old and can jam. Usually in the middle of a gunfight. See the point about dying...
You have malaria and every so often you will feel the effects and need to stop to take a pill. Usually in the middle of a gunfight.....
Missions involve long journeys from one end of the map to the other. Negotiating numerous guard posts and patrols (that respawn) can become tiresome. But not as tiresome as having to walk if you lose your vehicle.
If you don't shoot someone in the head they can take an absolute pummelling from even the heavy weapons before they die. This is not a problem in itself, but does not fit in with the realistic context of the game.
Also I don't understand why at the start of the game you can hardly run at all, with this ability building up (even then you can't run for long). Other games use this concept but it seems lame in this context.
Finally, in some missions you will have to take out a convoy of vehicles. When you finally reach them you discover that they are just driving round in a huge circle, not going from a to b. this kind of thing detracts from the 'realistic' nature of the game.
Despite the above I have enjoyed this game, but if you believe the hype you may end up being disappointed.
