Terrible August 9, 2008 Having played the most excellent Panzer Front games to death, I was interested to see if anything else out there could compare to that cult series.
This doesn't.
This is absolutely terrible. There is no aiming system and trying to hit other tanks is case of shooting, re-adjusting the camera, and shooting again. The other tanks just sit there and take it. The AI is so laughable that all you have to do is block the enemies and they'll just sit there lined up to be shot. They won't even attempt to move around you. Destroyed tanks 'sink' into the ground and disappear just as they did in real life. Music and sound effects are right off a stock CD or website.
Moving is difficult as the controls are so sloppy and it's all too easy to overcompensate. The landscapes are generic mashup of trees and hills with muddy textures. This sort of thing may have been the norm on the PS1 in 1995 when anything in 3D was cool but now it's an embarrassment.
Even describing it as 'Space Invaders with tanks' would be a unfair to Space Invaders. There is no gameplay here.
There are hints that the developers had at least played the PF games - the shell loading looks similar. The model tanks are fairly accurate and have at least working wheels and tracks (not just pictures of wheels and tracks as in some games). But there is nothing else to this game. It's laughably bad and whoever was in charge of development of this digital garbage should be fired and made to sell Big Issues.
Don't buy this game.

I really dont understand what everyone is moaning about, this game is brill !. Either your all under the age of 5 and havent a clue or your ps2 is at fault, or your just a complete moron. I just got this game a few days ago and ive not stopped playing, ive even let my dinner go cold. This is the best game EVER. Make sure you buy it or miss out on a top game.
For the love of God, just don't..... September 22, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Really, really terrible in every conceivable way. It's one of the worst games I have ever seen, spend your money on something else.
Really bad May 3, 2007 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Possibly the worst game I have ever come across. Awful graphics, awful sound, non-existent gameplay - it should be made a crime to produce dross like this.
If only I'd known... October 7, 2006 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
...that "WW2: Soldier" had come from the same stable (Midas Interactive) I wouldn't have even bothered getting this one in the first place. Alas, I did and it was even WORSE than "WW2: Soldier"! All I can do is echo the comments below - poor graphics, poor controls and poor gameplay. The command-a-tank feature in other PS2 WWII sims are all done so much better - I'd hoped this would be more of the same.
