 A return to form June 29, 2007
The first two Driver games were all-time classics. Great atmosphere, great gameplay and great music. The third one still had some of those elements, but lacked the atmosphere of the first two games, with gameplay bordering on criminaly difficult (no pun intended).
Driver:Parallel Lines, on the other hand, is far more flexible. It represents a return to form for the Driver franchise. Good soundtrack-you get a CD featuring its songs in the special edition, and a cool tin case-good, solid gameplay and the abilty to play both then and now, in 1978 and 2006. However, I'm not so keen on the fact that the game is in widescreen, and also, it's only across one city, New York, rather than the usual standard of three or four cities.
All in all, a very good game-but never again can Driver, in my opinion, scale the heights it once did. However, it's still better than the good but overhyped Grand Theft Auto series-even if this game parodies it somewhat.

Driver:Parallel lines is the fourth edition to the driver series and I Personally think this game easily rules over the lights of Driver 3.It doesn't beat Driver 2 or Driver 1 but if you don't own this game then you are missing out.I only gave it 4 stars overall because of the amount of glitches which it contains which of course ruins your enjoyment of it.Also,it has the ability to be able to mod cars and store them in your garage for another time, and you can also buy ammo for any guns that you may have.
There is also plenty of cheats to keep you occupied if you get bored of the missions and a strategy guide for easy game completion.Don't forget that this isn't playstation exclusive it is for xbox and for the future Wii and the PC.Last but not least this thankfully works on a PS3 with the right system update installed with still similar graphics.There is also(at least according to Amazon)Driver 5 PS3 bound for next March.All in all you should not get Driver 3 but this game instead.

Driver Parallel Lines is just a newer version of GTA! What has happened to the variety of cities? Where has Tanner gone? Why do you have to own a 16:9 TV to play it properly? The Driver series was all about the realistic driving and variety of cities. Now there is only one city and it is FAR TOO BIG!!! It takes too ling to get from one part to the next. There should be airplanes and trains to get you accross the city faster, not just an empty airfield and dederted monorail tracks. Also, there are too many glitches and this spoils the game. I gave Driver, Driver 2 and Driv3r great ratings but sadly, Driver Parallel Lines is different!

This is a welcome return to top form. this is not driv3r, this one is actually good. The story is good, Tanner can burn in hell, bring on TK. It is a great story line. the graphics are not fantastic but they do the job and they do led them selves well to the game. there less shooting and more driving. if you love driving game with guts get this. it has everything, although the story is not particulary long there are so many other thing that you can do. like try and get every car into your garage. takes ages and is really hard. and the music is great, well the 70's music is great the 2006 music is not as good. twisting the police up listening to a bit of blondy or david bowie PERFECTION.
the videos are great and alos the game loads straihgt into it, there is no main menu, it loads up like gta which is good, it bascially takes the same sort of format as gta.
the cars are excellent, although they so not use there real names you can tell that they are corvettes or maronellos, and there is even a car that bears a sriking resemblence to the bugatti veyron!!??
Buy it, if gta did not exsist this would be the big cheese

If you have an ordinary 4:3 TV the first thing you will notice about this game is how it possibly got its name. If like myself you have a 16:9 widescreen TV then fear not the image will be fine, but if you have a normal 4:3 TV then you will be playing the game in a letterbox in the centre of the screen. This is OK but it damages the experience of the game.
Be careful when you purchase this game, it's NOT a bad game it's just NOT a Driver game. I love both the GTA series and the Driver series of games but I have to say this game has lost some of the driver magic.
The previous driver games have focused on driving (apart from 3 which struggled to focus on anything) and this was where the attention to detail was placed. Now it seems the game has spent too much time trying to follow the GTA format and has forgotten what made driver stand out. The game physics feel totally different to that of previous driver games. The cars now feel light and far too nimble. Anyone who played previous instalments of Driver will know how the cars felt real and moved with a certain level of realism, this is lost. However that said this game has rectified the ease with which cars could be flipped which we experienced in Driver 3.
The missions and the plot are relatively average and closer to what you would expect from a GTA game. The missions aren't all that challenging and it was rare that I needed to play a mission twice.
The game does feature a massive array of road going vehicles spanning two era's but that's where it stops, there are none of the boats that were in Driver 3.
The loss of Tanner and his undercover police storyline are a shame. Instead a convict called TK, who among other things has a truly horrendous wardrobe, has replaced them. The police are another worry from what I have experienced they are possibly more dim than they were on driver 3, but this could just be me. The graphics are fine and the environments well modelled. (If a bit too big, it takes 15mins to get to a hideout)
This game isn't all that bad in a GTA clone kind of way; I just feel it lacks those special Driver touches.
