Great introduction to Professor Layton September 7, 2010 Cliff Chips This was my first experience of a Professor Layton game and will certainly be buying the rest of the catalogue! Professor Layton and the Curious Village had a perfect learning curve, gently breaking you in before throwing tough puzzles at you. The story was great too, and although I managed to guess the storyline quite early on, there was enough twists and turns to keep things interesting. A mention also needs to go the graphics, which were beuatiful, especially the cutscenes - very impressive indeed. The only slight downside for me was the constant onslaught of puzzles; at times I had just completed a extremely tough puzzle to then walk straight into another! Overall this was a very, very slight downside to an otherwise excellent game!
Really makes you think August 23, 2010 A. Leckie (Buckinghamshire, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought this recently as I have quite enjoyed the Brain Training games and this one certainly hasn't let me down.
Professor Layton's Curious Village is a collection of varied brain teasers and puzzles; the general jist is that you wander round the town speaking to people and solving their puzzles in order to solve the larger mystery of the Curious Village, gaining credits for the puzzles you solve. I did worry initially that it might be a little childish or that the puzzles would be really simple but that is not the case. In fact, some of the puzzles are really quite difficult, or so they seem until you really think about it. I got stuck a few times and enlisted the help of my husband who then also got hooked on working out the answer!
My 10 year old nephews also tried to play it for a bit but got bored quite quickly when they couldn't work out the puzzles and started to guess so I would recommend it for kids who are slightly older and have more patience! But mostly I wanted to play it myself.
Overall I wasn't that intrigued by the story and it, irritatingly, gave you a recap every time you turned the game on again and I couldn't find a way to cycle through it quickly. Other than that I would thoroughly recommend it for the enjoyment and as a great way to tease the little grey cells.
Layton August 21, 2010 T. Logan (Glasgow, Scotland) Great game. So many different puzzles to keep your mind active. Well worth buying.
Great game July 28, 2010 nikki Great puzzles and storyline with a twist at the end. Takes a nice while to finish the game so good value for money.
Addictive! July 28, 2010 Elizabeth Hanna (Belfast) I bought Professor Layton & The Curious Village after speaking to a friend who was working her way through it. I am not into murder mystery, but oh dear, I am so addicted to Professor Layton & The Curious Village! I love the animation in it, the storyline & how some of the puzzles are easy to solve, whilst others will tax this middle age-ed brain of mine that wee bit more! Will definitely buy the follow up game & I do hope there are plans for more of the same in the Professor Layton range!
