Product Description
EAs Dantes Inferno will take gamers to the western worlds most definitive view of the afterlife as created in the 13th century by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri in part one of his epic classic, The Divine Comedy. It tells an adapted story that focuses on delivering a blockbuster 3rd person action game experience while bringing Alighieris depiction of Hell to the medium. Players assume the role of Dante, who descends into Hell after returning home to find his beloved Beatrice murdered, with Lucifer seducing her soul into the underworld. Dante sets out on a rescue mission to save Beatrice, but he soon realizes he is also in Hell to face his own demons and ultimately to redeem himself. Players will take Dante through nine unique circles of Hell as mapped out and described by Alighieri: limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery. Each circle will showcase its own distinct look, with demons, monsters, damned and geography that are crafted straight from the poems vivid descriptions. To take down the demons of Hell, Dante is outfitted with two primary weapons: the Scythe he takes from Death and the Holy Cross given to him by Beatrice, which has spiritual powers that will help Dante collect souls and spells from the creatures he defeats on his journey. The game also features a deep upgrade system so gamers can customize their abilities to their specific gameplay style, something theyll need as Dante comes face to face with Hells fiercest beasts and bosses. If successful, Dante will be able to tame certain beasts, exacting their will and turning Hells punishments back on itself. Built on the same technology as the award-winning Dead Space, Dantes Inferno will deliver a fast, fluid and responsive combat experience running at 60 frames per second, a must-have for the action adventure genre. The game is being built by Visceral Games, with the same attention to poli

Devilishly fun August 14, 2010 Roger I read (and greatly enjoyed) Dante's Inferno many years ago, and it was primarily on that basis that I bought this game. Obviously I wasn't naive enough expect a sombre homage to the great epic poem, so I therefore wasn't unduly surprised at the scythe-slashing blood-bath that Dante's meditations on sin, love and mortality has become in game form.
Gameplay is great fun, though it can get a bit repetitive even with the ability to upgrade to new moves, and it was a bit of a jolt to get to the somewhat annoying trial levels later in the game. There's a good few puzzles, which aren't overly challenging but which aren't dumb either. One great puzzle has you trying to escape a small area of shifting gravity and portals.
The enemies are fantastic, ranging from Cerberus and his triple-snapping jaws to a topless Cleopatra who is the size of the Cloverfield monster and who has demonic babies crawling from her nipples! The settings themselves are awesome as well, such as gluttony's lakes of bile, or the creepy Wood of Suicides. Though the feel of the game is obviously far from the poem itself, the arrangement of Hell is very faithful, and a knowledge of the poem actually helps you anticipate which circle you'll encounter next. The constant screams and moans of the damned that follow you around also add the atmosphere of doom and anguish.
A lot of the cut-scenes use the in-game engine, but oddly some use comic-book style illustrations, which I felt didn't really work and didn't fit in with the rest of the game's appearance. Still, it's only a minor complaint.
The game is rather short, and as mentioned the combat can get repetitive, but the developers have fortunately not held back in making Satan's abode as horrific as possible. Going to Hell has never been as fun!
overall an interesting experience July 29, 2010 lucian the game overall is a timid response to God of War...
- the story remain unchanged no matter what you chose to do in the game
+ the background sound and music are chilling to the bone
Good Fun for 20 hours July 9, 2010 R. Mathew (London) The game is pretty nice. Graphically impressive and the whole slash n bash is well made. If you're and achievement hunter on xBox its is super easy to go 1000/1000
Only problem is that the game is too short. My first playthrough in which I went after all the collectibles (most of which were in plain sight) took only 12 hours. The second time, where I didn't go after anything except the final achievements, took me < 9 hours on Zealot difficulty (2nd level)
The game has two downloadable DLCs from xBox Live and they are not worth the MS points they cost so if a 'Game Of The Year' edition of this comes out with all the DLCs bundled it would be the best option otherwise go for the simple version.
Typical 3D platform Hack n Slash but worth a Play July 5, 2010 C. Ring (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Dante's inferno is a simplistic hack n slash platform game based loosely on the "Divine Comedy" by Dante Alighieri.
Graphically this game is quite good, it is not in the same league as some of the Xbox 360 exclusives like Gears of War (1&2) or Mass effect 2, but is pretty decent. There isn't much going on in each level which helps the game keep very high frame rates but honestly this game will not push your xbox very hard in the graphics sense.
Sound is very good and the effects are quite fitting and add quite a bit of atmosphere.
Gameplay is simplistic, basically once you've mastered the combo button presses it is quite repetative to defeat the enemies. Some of the levels are quite interesteing although sometimes they can be a little tedious.
However I would not say this is a stand out title, this is an ok game but you can get very bored with it quickly and it is very linear and very repetative.
One major disappointment I found was that there is no achievement for playing the game through on the harder difficulty levels, that aside, the game is an interesting experience for a single playthrough.
Overall I give this 4 stars.
Plus points:
Graphically quite good
Descent story
Good sound effects
Interesting level design
Some interesting bosses
Negative points:
lack of playability
Quite repetative
Totally linear gameplay.

This game is good, Fun little RPG But i did feel it got repetative. And only having 1 weapon throughout the WHOLE Game is very very boring..
