Not as good as thought! August 31, 2010 Gillian Milne (Scotland UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this game on release date, I loved it at first! I am going to do a step-by-step review. Starting with campaign and then onto multiplayer!
Campaign:
The campaign is really, really short! There is only about 6 hours worth of missions in there! I was really disappointed with this as a good game has a long campaign that can keep you going for days! Still, Modern Warfare 2's arch rival (Battlefield: Bad Company 2) isn't any better for the campaign. The campaign includes most of the characters of the original Modern Warfare, I never bought the 4th CoD so I don't know, and breaching the walls is fun! There are more weapons in the campaign but as I said before, the campaign is way to short! This game has Act 1, Act 2 and Act 3 again. Also if you complete the game there is an unlock called "Museum". This isn't a very popular game mode, but it is fun to fight the characters from the game every now and then! There is a lot of terrorism involved in this game. Also a lot of traitors. Bad for the young kids, but there is a reason this game has an 18 on it. If there wasn't any terrorism it would be a 15, but I warn you, there is a lot of it! And there is a mission where you kill innocent civilians for nothing. Of course this mission can be avoided by skipping it and doesn't make a difference to your game at all. Overall I give the campaign a 4 out of 5!
Special Ops:
Special Ops (Spec Ops) is fun, lots of missions in that and it can keep you going for the trophies! I need to get more trophies for the special ops mode because it is quite hard! There isn't really any terrorism involved in Spec Ops, just your average shoot and kill the enemies or they kill you! The Special Ops mode has a maximum of two players. Weather it is split screen, online or single player you will be having fun! I give Special Ops another 4/5!
Multiplayer:
This is where the Call of Duty action should be, but it isn't there! The online is messed up, and if you are looking for PC it is best just to leave the online due to the amount of hackers! It is fun to play online, you have the CoD Create-A-Class menu and you can now create your own killstreaks! The Killstreaks range from 3-25 kills. Of course you have a lot of campers (people that stay in the same spot all the time) that camp for killstreaks. This is really annoying! Also the grenade launchers are way over powered! For a grenade launcher being unlocked at 10 kills on an assault rifle, stupid move for Infinity Ward! The maps are bigger than the other Call of Duty's but what's the point of having bigger maps if your just going to get killed immediately by a grenade! Many kids on this game, they boast that they are the best and start talking through the mic to nobody for no apparent reason. Also the perks are really messed up! Commando is the most annoying thing to happen to CoD! Yes, even more annoying that Call of Duty World at War's MP40 with Juggernaut mix... It enables you to stab from more than 10 feet away! That's not bad you say? Lets see how you like it mixed with the UMP-45, Marathon and Lightweight. Seriously overpowered and annoying! Not to mention when they have a shotgun on their back! Messed up, just because of the wrong perks and guns! I give the multiplayer a poor 2/5!! Not good for Infinity Ward!
Overall the game gets rated a 3/5. If you don't have online then go ahead and buy it but if you do have online then stick with the other Call of Duty's or get the awesome force of Battlefield: Bad Company 2! Trust me, Bad Company 2 is not a bad buy! Thanks for reading through this review and I hope it considered you into what you should buy!
So close to greatness, but... August 26, 2010 M. Boyle (Glasgow) So, so close to being the finest PS3, and possibly even console, game of all time. On the plus side it looks great, plays superbly well, is hugely immersive, varied and hideously addictive.
But...
Weill, it's hard to know where to start, but really, the biggest problem with this game is something the developers couldn't really code for - human nature.
If MW2 has taught me anything about human nature, it's mainly that a large percentage of us are remarkably stupid, selfish creatures who would rather do something the quick way by cheating than put in any degree of effort whatsoever.
Frankly, camping etc don't bother me in the slightest. Quite happy for there to be people with all sorts of different game style, from people who like knives through to granade launchers and gunners, snipers through to shotgun brawlers.
But if there's one thing that has all but killed this game as anything other than an occasional distraction it's the outright cheating of so-called 'boosters' - idiots whose idea of a 'game' is hiding in a corner shooting a non-moving target (where do these sados go to meet each other?) to get pretty little symbols beside their names. It's not even as if they've 'won' a game since every other person playing knows what they were doing (If you're scored is 30-2 and your mate is sitting at something like 0-30 there's a fair chance you're a cheating bawbag!)
Now, why anyone would want to spend any amount of money doing this is beyond me. Is it actually fun in any way? Why on earth waste money on this game? Let's face it, anyone who sticks up the nuke symbol on their profile is automatically a complete joke now anyway.
Still, if nothing else, it guarantees that one of my custom classes will always have Sit Rep, semtex and a grenade launcher equipped - few things are as much fun as finding two cowardly little chums hidden away in a little corner doing what they do when no-one's looking and wiping both out at once.
My one wish - developers put enough after care into their games, especially online, to sort these problems as this is an almost worthless product in Free for All at the moment. Get rid of tactical insert, kick people who kill the same person a set number of times, and start banning people entirely from online games networks and eventually from the PS Network itself.
Failing that, all I'd wish for is that everyone else in Free for All simply stops shooting each other and gangs up to hunt the cheats out of every game lobby they enter.
So much potential in this game - criminally wasted by idiots.
Almost perfect August 23, 2010 Jez 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a FPS modern warfare 2 has a brilliant story to it, plenty of action, varying and fun levels, brilliant multiplayer mode, challenging local play (maybe split screen story mode would've been nice?) but it has one (VERY) big flaw...
WHERE'S THE ZOMBIES!!?
If you dont want to keep giving infinity ward/activision your money, i suggest you just wait til black ops comes out. More of the same, but zombies included!
DONT LISTEN TO NEGATIVE REVIEVS August 18, 2010 Michael_Ireland 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was reading bad revievs for MW2 and good revievs for BF:BC2 i wanted to buy BC but friend told me to get MW2 instead. BEST BUY EVER.
But thats just me August 17, 2010 Emedad1 (Bham England) Modern warfare 2 is a great game,
The single player can be short but its a good story, and there are times when although there are other squad members around I feel like im the only one with live ammo, there is also times when you feel out numbered out gunned and out of places to run. the games takes itself a bit too serious to be have real fun, and I always thought the worst thing about story mode was that you couldn't choose the weapons you start the mission with
The Spec Ops take bits of the some single player missions from this game and call of duty 4, gives them a little tweek, giving you a fresh but quickly going stale game mode, and not all of the missions are single player.
The Multiplayer is awesome, they have greatly expanded on modern warfare's online aspects such as rank achievements class creating and kill streaks.
There are however 2 real issues that bog down the online play
1. With no DEDICATED SERVERS comes issues with stabily, session hosting and overall managment
2. CAMPERS(camping=to hide with your back to wall waiting for people to run past and then shooting them (in the back usually)) the areas have too many of these camp sites to allow for your own mommentum to build, you could easley spend as much time waiting to respawn as you do running about or aiming at the brave who are willing to be out in the action where the real fun is.
The options are basic, especially the sound, its either up or down, what would have been great is to be able to individually alter the volume and a mute option for the music would be fantastic.
Graphics are great with only a few minor flaws
The script and voice cast are brilliant
It was never going to live up to the hype following the success of call of duty 4
8/10
