Shattered memories of past glories May 6, 2010 Matthew David Spark (Australia) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I found Shattered Memories a major disappointment. Gameplay in the 'normal world' is dull because there are no enemies. Gameplay in the 'other world' is interesting, in that you must evade enemies by throwing down obstacles or hiding until they pass, but suspense quickly subsides after the first few experiences. Running aimlessly from door to door trying to escape the 'other world' maze becomes monotonous and annoying. Silent Hill built it's reputation on maintaining a suspensful atmosphere throughout, with amazing music and great enemy design. This game has little of either and can sadly be summarised by one word that no Silent Hill game should ever be: BORING. I hope the next installment returns to the glories of past.
Enjoyable April 26, 2010 M. P. Bullock (Caernarfon, wales) Somewhat recaptured the the fear of old silent hill, the enviroments all felt spooky and threatening. The lack of combat in the game let it down, but the cut scene psychological evaluations made an for interesting addition. 4 out 5, I would have expected more if it were made for a later console than the ps2.
Silent Hill as it should have been April 4, 2010 Mr. S. J. Gage (UK) 'WOW' The original fantastic game of 'Silent Hill' being re-vamped and re-released on the PS3 with those fantastic graphics. WOW. Seemed like a dream come true. But what we got was a poor reproduction, poor graphics, annoyingly easy puzzles, and, worse of all, we were made to run AWAY from the monsters that inhabit the alternative world. Although this game seems to give you some insight and closure on the original game, I am still looking for my SHOTGUN to stand and fight, and the little boxes of ammo that the residents of Silent Hill would conveinently leave lying around. COME ON 'CAPCOM' PLEASE MAKE US A GAME AS GOOD AS YOUR FIRST 'SILENT HILL'. We know that you can do it. After all my moaning, I think that 'Shattered Momories' is still well worth a visit. IF YOU DARE.

Excellent voice acting, dreadful game play March 28, 2010 Errol Williams 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The in-game voice acting is excellent along with the script. Sadly I can not say the same about the overall gameplay.
I found this game incredibly frustrating to play. The worst part of the game is when you have to runaway from the bad guys by escaping through lots and lots of blue doors. I found the Map useless in this situation and it offered no help to guide you to which blue door you are to go through.
My second complant with this game is the majority of your time is spent walking around with a flash light in your hand searching for clues.
I feel this game for the PSP could of been so much more and has been let down by extremely repetitive "all you do is walk around with a flash light in your hand" gameplay, average graphics and exciting moments that are almost non-existent.
This could of been a great game - but was ruined by the lazy effort by the developers at Konami.
New Silent Hill Is a real thrill March 7, 2010 Ms. R. Porter (England) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
This new Silent Hill game is brilliant in a lot of ways. The first being that it has been released for the PS2, a lot of people have not yet upgraded to PS3. I found this a problem with Tomb Raider Underworld. I now DO have one, but have kept my PS2, as I love so many of the games for it, and now I am glad that I did. When I heard it was coming out, I thought that it would be quite a difficult game, but the addition of the mobile phone as a user interface, is clever, and quite easy to handle, once you get the hang of it, and enhances game play in many ways. The thing that I have always loved about SH are the storylines. In the previous games, although very good for their time,(I still play them over and over again), killing off the monsters did seem very routine. Shoot them all or hit them to death, in the end you do get rather sick of those alarm bells ringing and that crackling radio. It is quite a different concept in this game that you do not fight any monsters at all, you have to flee. I think it is a lot more frightening, and extremely original, finding the exit is not always that simple, you end up going round and round in circles, panicking and trying to outrun those horrible fiends, this is where the GPS on the mobile phone comes in handy. You are running so fast you do not have much time to think, it makes the game a lot more frightening and difficult. The puzzles seem to be a lot harder too, but perfectly do-able.
The addition of the Psychological tests makes things more and more unnerving. The answers to which you give, changes things in the game. I am on my second run through, and have noticed a lot of differences, It brings YOU into the horror, and makes you feel part of the nightmare. The phone also can be used in many ways, to ring numbers scrawled on walls, to call contacts, To take pictures, to unlock clues to work out a more frightening overall general picture, although if you want to store them, you can only store 10 per profile. If you have played SH1 you will recognise some of the characters in this, but the storyline is completely different. It turns what you thought you originally thought about the SH story on its head.
I think this is a brilliant game. The control you have of Harry and his interaction with the SH environment is second to none. The technology has improved a great deal and by far surpasses anything you would expect from a PS2 game. Being able to manipulate objects as you would in real life is particularly pleasing. I have only played this game once so far, but In replay value, I can tell it has a lot more to offer.
