2 out of 5 stars SId messed up   November 29, 2008

I play the original Colonization on the Amiga years ago. I've also play all the Civilizations from 1 to 4 and loved every edition. So you would expect that I would have been right at home with this one. I bought it about three weeks ago though I haven't really had a great amount of time to play it till this week. Now I wish I had left it on the shelf rather than taken it down to play. How could Sid have messed this up so badly. Yes the graphics are as great as Civ4 but the gameplay has sank to a level that I thought impossible. Add to that there is a great lack of understanding of history and how the American War of Independence came about. This was lacking a little from the original but this version has totally missed the point. Even in the easiest settings I found it unlikely to be able to get to the point where I could decare my freedom. I would not recommend this game to my worst enemy. Maybe the CIA should use it as a form of torture.

1 out of 5 stars Deeply boring   November 22, 2008

As someone who has played CIV IV probably once a week since it came out, I am very disappointed with this. Deeply tedious and unengaging, with very limited options. The makers of CIV IV have disappeared up thier own self-regard with this one...

If you loved colonization 1 you will love 2nd one i gave it 5 stars However it may be not every one cup of tea read couple of reviews before you made up your mind and decide if its for you because they should name it Colonization instead of civilization4 colonization as this game is very different to civilization but still love it 5 stars

1 out of 5 stars Don't Buy Colonisation   November 13, 2008

I'm a great fan of Civ, which I've been playing since Civ2 came out. I've enjoyed Civ4 and all the expansion packs. One of the pleasures of Civ has been that the games have only been released when ready - tested and bug-free. Colonisation is an exception. I've yet to get it to play for more than a couple of turns - it just freezes and crashes. My PC is well above the minimum specs, and CIv4 and all other variants work fine. Worst of all, there are no patches on the web site, and the support is non existent. I emailed support a week ago and apart from an automated message saying I wd receive a response within 24 hours, have had no reply at all. All in all, unacceptable.
If the bugs are fixed this might be a good game - for the moment save your money.

4 out of 5 stars Thanks Sid!   November 1, 2008

I wasnt even aware this was coming out until I stumbled on it in Zavvi. So, it was kind of an impulse buy. I loved the orginal which I had for my Commodore Amiga, so an update was an exciting prospect.

Firstly, this installed with absolutely no problem on my machine (as has Red Alert 3 and Fallout 3) and plays a treat.

Ok, it's Civilisation at the core, and an update of an old idea, so it's not breaking new ground, but it's been done really well, looks lovely and in my opinion is more fun than Civilisation. For simpletons like me, i found it really easy to get into, but not overly simplified as some other recent games (e.g Sim City Societies and RailRoad Tycoon which I confess I havnt actually played).

Anyway, if you have a hankering for a bit of Colonization, a desire for a slight change on Civ 4 or just want a good quality strategy game, give it a go.

Finally I'm not getting this SecureRom hysteria. It would be really helpful if people pointed out if games were any good on here, rather than endless complaining about copy protection. Fair enough, the protection issue is important, but its really unhelpful basing a whole review on it.
