Amazon.co.uk Review There never was a video game of Casino Royale, but now Activision is making up for lost time with a title that incorporates both Casino Royale and its immediate sequel, Quantum of Solace. It’s primarily a first-person shooter, but it does switch to an over-the-shoulder view when hiding under cover or taking part in interactive cut scenes. Daniel Craig is a big games fan and has taken a personal interest in the game | Almost everything in the game can be destroyed or damaged | Stealth is just as important as gunplay when you’re James Bond | Close combat switches out of first person view for a more cinematic effect | Just like the Bond movies, the game offers a mixture of action and stealth, with the chance to take down enemies instantly if they don’t see you. You’ll almost always be outgunned, but you’re given clues as to which strategy to take by the changing music. Bond's aresenal has been slimmed down in the new films, so it makes sense that there aren’t many gadgets in the game. There is an online multiplayer mode that pays homage to past classic Bond games such as GoldenEye 007. Which should hopefully make Bond’s video game comeback as successful as his cinematic return. Key Features - You only live twice: Recreate the stories of both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace in one game, including deleted scenes and new side missions.
- Duty calls: The game uses the same graphics technology as Call of Duty 4, including bullets that realistically pass through wood and other materials.
- You know his name: The game features not only the voice and likeness of Daniel Craig, but also Judi Dench as M, Mathieu Amalric as villain Dominic Greene, and Olga Kruylenko as Camille.
- Shaken not stirred: A mix of first- and third-person viewpoints allows for both shooter action and tense stealth-based exploration.
- Licence to kill: Battle friends in the online mode in a wide range of game types.
About the Developer: Treyarch One of publisher Activision’s biggest internal studios, Treyarch have worked on many of the company’s best known titles, from the Spider-Man movie tie-ins and spin-offs to several of the Call of Duty sequels and, of course, the new James Bond game, Quantum of Solace.

Good Solid Shooter, but Story line is Patchy November 21, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm sure almost all people interested in this game have played a Bond game before, previously released by EA. This time around there are no gadgets in the game whatsoever apart from an electronic door hacker, which you don't even get to see, and a mobile phone with objectives and messages on, there is no car driving in it either.
Activision have focused purely on stealth, the cover system, and gunplay, and made a pretty good job of it too, the weapons are top notch, they have a good feel to them, good sounds, and almost every gun in the game can have a silencer fitted, the cover system works really well most of the time, sometimes it can be a bit fiddly, but when you are behind cover you can't be hit, you can blindire over the top, or peek over quickly for a more accurate aim. The game litters areas with explosive objects which you can shoot to blow up enemies.
The storyline however is parts of Casino Royale merged with Quantum of Solace, and this just doesn't work at all, parts of Royale are the wrong way round, and if you haven't seen the movie, they skip bits and it will make no sense whatsoever, in fact the whole story doesnt make much sense anyway, putting two different films together in the wrong order, it's obvious they only did this to cash in on the latest Bond Movie, by having the same name, but terrible story line aside, there are some great missions in here, you will remember the part where Bond was poisoned by a drink and had to get to his car in time, well that is a whole mission in the game, and a nice little touch, there is also a great train mission, making your way along a train, and jumping from train to train. The fight sequences are very good too, the best i've ever known in a game, because when you press a button, you actually get to see the punch, or the avoiding of the enemies punch, so you know that you are actually affecting the fight, how many other times have you played a fighting game and it's that fast; with that much button mashing you are not even sure what press affected what punch, the Bourne identity, boxing games, they are all a bit like this, but with Bond the fight scenes are the best I've ever seen in a game, on easy and medium they are a doddle, but on hard, you have to be rapid, or you will take 50% damage by missing just one button press, great stuff.
Overall this game is rather short, but better a great short game than a long boring or average one, and don't compare this to COD4, why would you? just because it's made by Activision and uses the same game engine has nothing to do with it as a game in its own right, its a Bond game, and it captures the new Bond persona and the style of the gadget free films perfectly, keep up the good work Activision.
No Mr Bond ......... I expected you to be awful.......a great game for a brilliant movie! November 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Its been a very long time since the brilliant Goldeneye on the N64, probably the greatest FPS of all time!..... since then Bond and video games have a had its ups & downs. EA took the licence from Rare and did an ok job, there first few games wher awful on the psone Tomorrow Never Dies and 007 Racing OMG but then Agent Under Fire was brilliant, as was Nightfire & Everything or Nothing. But then they started to go down hill again with the god awful Rogue Agent and the not great From Russia With love.
Now Bond has a new developer Activison/Treyarch these new makers come at a time where the big screen Bond has taken a new direction. Yep Daniel Craig and co have re-invented Bond as we know him, giving him a whole new depth and not a invisible Aston Martin in sight! So how do you bring this new brutal Bond to the game world, use the COD4 engine and make the game play like Rainbow Six witha great mix of 1st person and 3rd.
The results are a truly brilliant game, it manages to capture the feel of Craig's Bond while still feeling like a Bond movie. The graphics while not up to COD4 standard (mind u what game does!) are very good some level look better than others. The character model are good, but Craig himself looks perfect. The games sound is brilliant, the silenced PP9 sounds just like the Silenced PPk did in Goldeneye. The most important thing is all the actors true voices are in the game, this really helps you feel like Craigs Bond. There are loads of weapons for 007 to get his hands on, as as with the new movies Bond doesnt have any gadgets to rely on, no now laser watch will help u here, but a nice bullet to fire extinquisher will bling an enemy while you run up to them a take out hand to hand! Yes get close to an enemy click RS and the right face button and Bond will take them down only as he knows how!
As I mentioned the game plays rather like Rainbow Six than it does COD and this works very well, shooting from cover does feel like Craigs Bond. The game is easier than RS tho, you will be able to take people out while shooting from hip (not in cover).
As there was no game for Casino Royale you will play through the key scenes of this movie to in forms of flashback levels. Actually its about 50/50 Casino Royale and QOS levels. They blend together quite well, its a bit strange you dont just play the movies in order, which I assumed you would, but still works ok.
As a single player experience this is a good game, but if you want a new COD4 dont get this game. It is a Bond game and a bloody good one! If you come out of seeing (the brilliant Quantum of Solace) and just want to be James Bond then put this game in your Xbox and you will love it! As you probably guessed I am huge Bond fan and love these new movies as much as the old gadget joke laden Bond Movies so I am in no doubt thats why I love it so!
I wil admit the has some flaws, the story telling is rather bad, som eof the key scenes are told via MI6 sound files rather than tasty cut scenes. The enemy AI is too mixed some are very clever and flank you, some dive away from grenades and some will just stand there while you shoot them. Some great scene's have been replaced with QTE again!! they do work well but stil would have prefered to play them myself! these are just minot niggles tho!
But thats not all! I almost forgot QOS has a brilliant multiplayer too, and I am findingmyself geting addicted to it. far better some action games multiplayer out at the moment (cough Far Cry 2) it is really good. There are about 8 game modes, with the usual TDM to the cool Bond vs the Organistion! You earn credits to buy new weapons and Gadgets/Perks ect including proximaty mines WOOHOO!.... and if that doesnt get you excited maybe the fact theer is a next gen remake of the facility map from Goldeneye on there! yes the multiplayer gives more than a slight nod to Rare's N64 classic!
So well done to Activison & Treyarch boys, you have given us a great Bond Experiaece..... to go with a brilliant new movie.

Absolute rubbish November 15, 2008 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
I got this game in the post on the day of release, and although im a big fan of COD4 i feel that this game is a big let down, how it can be compared to cod4 is beyond me really, the end of level (boss) characters and some of the other fight sequences on this game are just an FMV (full motion video) clips with randon button press sequences which can appear way to quickly for you to react in time, which then means you have to go back to the start of the FMV sequence and guess the ranom button again... This game stinks of low quality game play and it seems to be very rushed to get it out on time for the film release.. My copy went on ebay after a couple of days..

Normally this game might be ok, but compared to the other high quality Christmas release it just doesn't stand up! I made the mistake of buying this over other titles, played it once... not enough fun for me to waste my valuable time on. So traded it in for Gears of War 2 (while I could still get a good price), I feel much happier now :-D
Great game. November 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having played COD4 - and loved it - I was keen to play QoS as it's based on the COD4 engine. It does not disappoint! The game itself is based on the film and also the previous Daniel Craig film - Casino Royale.
Graphics are excellent and the controls are easy to pick-up (especially if you have played COD). I particularly like the 'cover' feature which allows you to hide whilst 'ducking out' to shoot. Gameplay is realistic - so if someone is hiding behind a wooden door - stick a bullet straight through it and get em! ;o) The only reason this didn't get a full 5-stars is - as previous reviewers have mentioned - the hand-to-hand combat is a but dodgy. You press the stick to engage, then are prompted to press either A,B,X or Y to perform a move - and you don't get to pick! Other than that - a thoroughly enjoyable game. I am planning to complete the single player mode this weekend, then will go online looking for multiplay!
Finally - a nice touch was a lot of the achievements are named after 007 titles.
Great game.
