Ninja!!!! July 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The game is good, not the greatest game in the world but I always ask myself would you buy it for 40 (the usual in-store price). Yes I think I would, It's good fun, you can customize your character to a high level including clothing, facial looks etc...
It's a fun game to play and once you get used to the idea that being a ninja is all about stealth and patience and not storming into battle it becomes alot more fun, I find myself trying to complete assinination missions by only killing the target and not soldiers along the way but I've got to admit it's hard to resist a little jump of a wall to silently kill some poor unsuspecting soldier.
It is an improvement on all previous versions of the game on aspects such as gaming, control, combat, cut-scenes and fun.
My overall Summary: Great fun. Great action. Good cut-scenes. Good mission playability. Good reality likeness. Easy to control. Easy combat funtions. Worth the small price-tag.
I feel like a ninja!! June 10, 2008 I really do when I play this game, its excellent. Where do I start? Well firstly the graphics are lovely, very smooth and I love how it has been made with elements of a Japanese Manga cartoon, inparticular how blood from your victims sprays out in lines as though arteries have been severed...great! The settings are individual and different in every case and full of the charm and character you would expect from old Japanese villages..
The controls take a bit of getting used to and some are a little difficult to perform whilst in a combat situation however this does not take anything away from the overall game.
There are dozens of missions for you to complete, most of which are based around protecting the land in which you live, killing gangsters and smugglers and the like. You can upgrade your skills and weapons with the money you earn from successfully completing each mission and change your attire for a change of pace...
I especially love how the character moves, walking with sword drawn he looks terrifying and deadly...I wouldn't like to meet him in a darkened alley way. He also performs all the acrabatic skills you would expect from a ninja, and inparticular his sommersaulting skills between roof tops is most satisfying...silent and precise!
All in all this is a stealth game as all ninja games should be, and there is nothing better than creeping up on a guard and silently throwing him to the ground and slitting his throat...The combos are very well thought out, most of which are quite realistic and simple instead of superhuman acrabatics that allot of other titles opt for, and this element brings a realistic feel to the game and a closeness to your character.
A very good game, definately one for the collection.
Almost but not quite.. May 4, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought Tenchu Z hoping for a stealth ninja assassination game which can also be played online. And that's exactly what I got. The game mechanics for this game are great because you can interact with practically anything (even cling to celings), Can't reach a ledge? just grapple hook it. The stealth system is based around the human senses which can often be humourous as times. The customization of your ninja's appearance is very nice, ranging from tengu masks to hiding your ninjato in an instrument. The only things which I believe the game needs to be perfect is:
Better graphics,(they arn't awful but not good.) More variety between maps, (all the maps are repeated at least twice) A few more animations, (It sometimes gets boring doing the same stealth kill animation over and over) More multiplayer modes
I'd say it was definatly worth 20.
Not bad, but not great either March 4, 2008 Tenchu Z allows you to play as a ninja, completing various missions (kill the bad guy, recover bombs or documents etc) by use of stealth and various skills and items you acquire over time through buying them as you gain cash for each mission you play. The gameplay is fair and to play it through on medium difficulty took me 18 hours (although there is room to replay and improve on many of the missions).
However I would suggest you spend your cash elsewhere. Why? The missions are very similar and with very few maps available you will become bored with the same maps, missions and challenges within the third or fourth game session. Graphics are not great - although I have seen much worse, the Xbox 360 can do so much more. The game will not keep you happy for more than 25 hours at best.
If you want to sneak around and kill things then buy Oblivion and play as an assassain - much more game for your money.
Good Ol' Tenchu January 6, 2008 I first experienced this franchise with Deadly Assassins on the psone, and absolutely loved it. A good ten years on and it's back on the sublime Xbox 360 and to be honest not much has changed. The graphics are barely above previous titles on so-called "last-gen" consoles, the ai is stupidly stupid and the control system as wackier than ever (each button does up to three amazing things depending on what trigger you're holding) - but it still rocks! If you can look past these foibles (which I realise some of the younger gamers may have a problem doing so) there is still plenty to be enjoyed from this game. I will admit, I was expecting a lot more from the 360 outing. The character creation put to my mind that this may be slightly more rpg than before, until you actually see the creation screen that is! There is the bare minimum of choices and they don't make a blind bit of difference to the gameplay, which is fun in its own way. Feeling bored? Try a naked neon haired ninja. All the colours of the rainbow. The gameplay is solid though, not many other games would have you happily creeping about doing bugger all for a good half hour, studying the lay of the land, the guards routes and any sneaky passages that might be available. It is so easy to get caught up in the game and still leaves room for toying with the guards. A prsonal favourite of mine is to kill them all down to the last and then send the remaining lone soldier on a wild goose chase before running slap bang into the minefield you've so considerately left waiting for him. Hopefully the next outing will jazz up the graphics a bit, but until then this is a more than adequate waste of time.
