stupendously fast November 9, 2008 the graphics are amazing the crashes are insane and the racing is ridiculously fast and furious, a brilliant game only one player racing but the lack of tracks and freedom to race through the city and takedown other cars makes gameplay gripping, the cars look amazing and the soundtracks great, best racing game ever played
Burnout Paradise August 11, 2008 Let me start by saying two things...
1. This is purely an offline review 2. I have only previously played one burnout game (revenge)
Burnout paradise has turned out to be quite a good and really fun game for me. The graphics are nice and sharp with no slip in the framerate even at high speeds which I think is essential for a game which is played at such a fast pace, the gameplay is good and it sounds realistic too.
I have seen some reviews criticising the open format and free burning, like I said at the start having only played one burnout game before so this new format doesnt really bother me all that much. Sometimes it is a little bit frustrating when your at peak burning speed about a mile from the finish and you miss a turning because the road ahead is'nt blocked off like it used to be, but i find this element of the game fun and adds a little more skill to the game (checking your map at those speeds is not east)
There are a wide variety of events to compete in, every set of traffic lights marks the start to an event, whether it be a race, road rage, marked man or a stunt run. There number of cars available is also impressive with 75 to earn overall (i only have about 40 at the minute) obviously the first few cars are a little slow, but the pace soon picks up and each one takes a little bit of getting used to.
Good price, excellent life span (hours of play) without getting too repetitive and just all around great fun. Well worth a buy if you like arcade style racing games.
Adrenalin rush, great fun. July 26, 2008 This is my favourite 360 game so far,its just a big adrenalin rush from the minute you start, love the graphics and the fact you can free roam the streets of paradise city,if you want an arcade style racer instead of a racing sim this is the game to go for, very fast and always something happening.five stars from me.love it.
Bring back the old Burnout April 14, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was a huge fan of all of the burnouts since the very first one and 'revenge' is probably the best - i actually completed the single player with perfect in all events.
The new freeroaming burnout is a completely differnt game and i ahve to say i don't like it anywhere near a much. In the old games the 'wrong turns' were blocked off, but they're not in this one leading to some errors at 100mph and more than a little frustration. The level up seems similar to older versions but you seem to ride the same routes at each level just in faster cars and there doesn't seem to be as much variation as in burnout revenge.
Burnot has been great up until now - please bring the old version back Criterion
UPdate - i've just recieved a second hand copy of burnout revenge and i intend to work my way through this better game again. If you have neither i would suggest buying revenge over paradise
Fun, just not for long. April 9, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Being a hardcore Burnout series fan, I absolutely could not wait for this game. It was going to be one of my biggest games this year.
So obviously I bought the game and started playing it alot, first impressions weren't amazing, wasn't to keen on free roaming, I mean Burnout is supposedly a racing series. I didn't dislike it because I can't read maps, it's just stupid. If your racing at break neck speed, the last thing you want to be doing is trying to read a badly run map, whilst also trying to plan your next few corners.
And in a racing game, I'd like to be able to go to the menu and select a race, in 'free' raoming, you cannot actually do that, you have to drive around for ages to get to them, and activate a race. It just seems silly for a racing game. Although some people do say the NFS series are racing games, so I guess if you like them, you'll like this!
Another ridiculous feature, or lack of, is that there is no speedo??? I don't think I need to explain why that's annoying.
Anyway after all these flaws, I did actually enjoy the game for a while. I really enjoyed trying to set road rules, and enjoyed a few of the new game modes, although I didn't like stunt run at all, but then again I was awful at it, which is probably why it frustrated me so much.
It's actually quite a good game to play with a few mates over live, completing the challenges is quite enjoyable.
The single player was fun for a while, but you actually have to go through the whole game twice to get your elite license, which is incredibly annoying as going through it once quite a hassle anyway, due to the fact you cant just select a race you have to drive to one. People may argue that point by saying 'well just do an event that's close', but what if the car you're driving isn't suitable for a near event? The whole free roaming thing really isn't good, and I can assure you, there is nothing free about it at all.
If you're a Burnout fan: Don't buy it, rent first.
If you're new to the Burnout series: Rent first, you might like it, but if you do, you'll the old ones.
All in all, it's OK. But definately no way near amazing. In my opinion EA really screwed this game up, as they have with so many others this year.
I had all the other Burnouts, and I had Revenge on the old Xbox, then the 360, and alltogether I had about 3000 hours on it. Paradise lasted about 60.
