 A fantastic game ruined by serious shortchanging tactics November 20, 2008
Let me state from the off, Fable 2 is fantastic. An engaging, lush looking RPG that had me absoltely hooked when I started playing it... For as long as I got to play it... because, so tragically, great though it is, this game is insanely short. Short to the point where I wonder if it was actually finished when it got released. I'll get back to this in a moment.
The good with the game is VERY good though. Great visuals, imaginative designs in the cast and the towns and villages that makes titles like Oblivion look empty and bland by comparison. A decent combat system(That perhaps felt a tad too button bashy a little too often), incredible soundtrack and voice acting... I swear, this seemed to have everything at the start... then it all went wrong.
First problem was the 'gesture' system. While it was more or less like the original Fable in how you interacted with the various people walking around, there were far too many instances where I had to keep running ahead of someone in order to have time to find the right gesture to have ready for when they passed by me, and the fact that everyone in sight seemed to react to every gesture you aimed at an individual felt annoying too, as every time I used a character's 'favourite' gesture on them, some else nearby would be upset by it, making one big cycle where no matter who you tried to make happy, it always annoyed someone else. It just felt like more trouble than it was worth. The dog that follows you throughout the game too, didn't seem nearly fleshed out enough. Sure it provided a decent distraction for enemies at times(Even though it always seemed to get hurt every single time I got into a fight) and is useful for finding treasure chests and buried items, but beyond that, I never felt like I'd developed enough of a bond with the animal in the game as the game seems to want you to have developed, though this could also be a consequence of the central flaw with this game: It's length.
This is the most ridiculously short RPG I have ever played. I finished it in around a dozen hours at most, and that was with making time to do a lot of sub quests, get a couple of jobs(Maxed out too), start a family(Twice), buy a couple of properties and see (I think)most of what the game had to offer, but still, the central plot just ran it's course in no time at all. I literally thought I was at the half way point of the game at most when the final stretch kicked in. I definitely didnlt feel like I was burning my way through the game too quickly or anything like that, I played at the same pace I took the original Fable, and yet despite boasting of having a game world 'ten times the size' of Fable 1, Fable 2 lasted me a third as long as the original game.
True, I didn't do nearly all the game has to offer, and the actual world itself is considerable more 'open' than the rather narrow original's world, but that doesn't really mean anything if the game is going to end so quickly and so abruptly. Abrupt it is, too, for in addition to the shortness, the game has no final dungeon OR final boss to conquer. No final challenge or climax to round out events and as a result this leaves the main plot feeling incredibly unsatisfying in addition to being woefully underdeveloped.
There are a few other niggles here and there. The frame rates in the game seem to struggle often, with a lot of slowdown cropping up around the place, and it can often be difficult to find items given the way the shops are set up. I had a very difficult time finding both decent armour and any healing items throughout the game.
All in all, this is a wasted masterpiece that seems to just destroy it's initial majesty by having a central, driving plot that is nowhere near long enough nor strong enough to keep the game from feeling like a short, unsatisfying half-game.
A sore, sore disappointment that genuinely made me remorseful for all that it should have been. Be forewarned about Fable 2 before diving in with unrealistic expectations folks, or you might just get your heart broken too.

As a fan of Fable I, I was really looking forward to this game....Now after having bought not one but two copies of the game, I am bitterly disappointed. Both times I was able to play for only a few hours before being stuck with never ending load screens. The music stops but nothing happens....
The limited time I did get to play reveals a good looking game, but poor, challenge-less gameplay.
I've returned both copies as defective and got Mirror's edge and Fallout 3 instead. I suggest you do something similar.

I was so looking forward to Fable 2, as liked the first game a fair bit and thought that it would be improved on in the second one. BUT, it didn't. Well in some ways (can play a female, quite liked the dog, graphics obviously a bit better) it was improved, but in a few crucial areas it hasn't been so great for me:
No mini-map, or indeed really a map to speak of. Its like because you get the glowing trail they decided you don't need a map anymore. Really annoying for when you want to find your way back to somewhere or even find a shop etc. And it makes you feel a bit like you're playing the entire game with your hand being held.
The ending. No spoilers but its pretty anti-climatic.
Its reallllly easy. I'm really not a game buff, so sometimes games like FF can be a bit hard, but this was so easy it was a bit annoying.
No multiple save points.
Really short - it felt like we'd barely played it and then it was over, and thats with doing quite a few side things.
Anyway, its good that its very accessible and playable. Its fairly pretty and i was enjoying it until i realised that "oh...wait, its finished??". Real Shame :(

I feel fable 2 is a very good game it combines good grapics with a good (hmm ok slightly predictible storyline)sense of fantasy realism that leaves the player i feel happy and satisfied. True it took me three days to complete it (fast going for me)but I feel I good go back and do it all over again. It is a good game that once you have got it you can go back o it again and agian because I feel it is good for the price and good for killing some fun spent hours playing it doing things diffrently on time then another way the next.

The game was awesome fun while it lasted. Once I completed the main quest and lost a certain companion I felt like there was nothing else to do apart from hording all the property, which I did. I completed the majority of the side quests, but the rewards for these are pretty poor.
The graphics are amazing, combat is good fun, but just take your time and don't rush through the main quest is my advice.
