Excellent game! November 21, 2008 Banjo-Kazooie has returned from its ten year hiatus in this awesome 360 sequel. All the characters are back, and so is the hilarious dialogue. Rare has a brilliant sense of humour and even mocks itself from time to time!
Adding in vehicles was a bold step, but it pays off. The ability to design your own transportation is really well thought out. It is simple, yet the possibilities are endless. There are also 'blue-prints' of vehicles if you have trouble building your own - or don't know where to start off!
You can paint your vehicle, name it, and test it out before you use it on the missions.
As with the previous two games, the music is excellent and really brings the worlds to life. It might be worth noting that it was the same composer who worked on the earlier Banjo games! For those complaining about the vehicle based gameplay - there is quite a bit of platform gameplay present. And on top of that, you get to download the original game from XBOX LIVE for FREE!
The mutliplayer mode is OK, could've been better, but I'm not really bothered - the single player is too much fun!
Great Idea But Not A Classic November 21, 2008 I loved the original Banjo Kazooie games and, like many, was surprised at the vehicle-centric gameplay when it was first announced. However, I always look forward something different and this is certainly that. There has been a lot of moaning about it but if you want a straight platformer get the original BK on XBLA or buy a Wii and Super Mario Galaxy - they are unmatched.
From the outset this is clearly a Rare game. The locales beam with imagination and graphical splendour and the characters are rich in details and humour. Better still is the fact that the game doesn't seem to suffer from slow down as you negotiate the massive open landscapes.
The gameplay itself revolves around collecting jiggies and other stuff from various worlds in order to unlock new ones - very much like Mario 64. Again like Mario 64 each level has a number of 'acts' so you play the same environemnt several times to complete all of the tasks. This is fine but also a problem. Each level finds you going towards markers on a GTA-style mini map to complete a task which can get quite robotic. The challenges themselves can either be frustrating, too easy or repetitive. I've currently completed about 35 such tasks which are mostly races or collect this from A take it to B ASAP. There are well over 100 tasks so let's hope they improve. You can do a lot of exploring outside of the main game which breaks things up nicely and helps you find new parts to build better vehicles with.
Vehicle building is actually quite cool - although it can get tedious with the joypad to construct anything large. A facility to design on the web and upload to the 360 would be amazing as a mouse makes more sense. Vehicle control can be anooying and you tend to skew wildly when hitting the slightest bump. But, to be fair, when you build your first fast vehicle you can't help but smile. Tasks can require you to build your own vehicle to suit the job in hand which again provides a level of reward.
In summary, great idea and well worth buying and playing but a bit clunky and repetitive at times. It's a shame xmas isn't in February as an another month or two of polish and this could have been stunning.
What have they done to Banjo-Kazooie November 20, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Firstly, the original banjo-kazooie games were great, excellent platformers and probably up there with Mario and Sonic. Anyway, I started playing this and I stopped after 1 hr, it was just not my cup of tea. If I wanted to build a bloody car I'd buy lego or stickle-bricks. I understand that they want a new direction, but DO NOT ruin a wonderful platformer into something unplayable. Banjo-Kazooie has first and foremost been a platformer and a very good platformer for that fact. I'm a regular bloger on the pantsboard on the rare site. Rare have always held a special place for me, but this now takes things to far. This game just take the wrong direction, I can see many loyal fans of Banjo being very disappointed. The much loved story has gone down the drain and they built a game which isn't aimed at both the young and adults anymore.
I just played 15min of banjo on N64 and that intial touch of class and awe is not here. Wake-up Rare and start making the games like you use to. I guess some may like it, but I for one can't get into it.
If you loved the originals, stay clear from Nuts & Bolts.
Wonderful and fun! November 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am writing this review as i believe that the negative reviews do not do this game justice! it is extremely fun to play and very creative, and has the classic banjo kazooie humor. Although it is not like the original and does not have all the power-ups as the first game did, the focus is based on creating your own vehicles in any ways you want! even i was skeptical at first about buying this game but after playing the demo i loved the feel of the colourful world of nuts and bolts the graphics are simply flawless and are quite clearly of next gen standard. But i personally believe this game is so good because it is so different to anything else on the market at the moment! the shelves are littered with similar fps games and this is a wonderful change from the norm colourful, imaginative and great fun to play. download the demo and find out for yourself how much of a treat this game is :)
Need HD TV. November 17, 2008 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
I can't comment on the game play personally. However if you want to be able to actually READ the text in game, which I'm assuming is quite essential since I have no idea what to do, then you need a HD TV. I read a forum post that RARE don't plan on fixing this problem with standard TV's.
So if you want to play this game make sure you have a HD TV or you will suffer from headaches and blurry eyes. What a jip.
