4 out of 5 stars East Coast Express Part 1   May 14, 2008
This add-on is great. I rate it 5 stars for fun because there is quite a wide range of rolling stock and activities, which are excellent. The train sounds are realistic, the starting sounds of the Class 91 and 43 are little different from the real thing, and the activities are brilliant. But I rate it 4 stars for overall because there are a few things that are different in this add-on. For example, King's Cross station does not have the entrance to the London Underground like it does in real life, also in some locations where fast points should be placed there are quite sharp slow crossovers, so hitting these at over 100 MPH and crossing over would not be realistic, but other than that grumble, the add-on is perfect. I use the ECML quite regularly from Newcastle, and I find the East Coast Express add-ons excellent. I strongly have to disagree with one of the reviewers who gave the add-on a rating of 2 stars because he had a few faults, including the train derailing while stationary, the train breaking a coupler at 30 MPH, but none of that has happened to me, as I have completed almost all of the activities. He thinks it has poor rolling stock and boring activities. If you are interested in the ECML then the East Coast Express add-ons are a must. I've got all 4 and they are excellent and well worth the money.
Rolling stock includes:
Class 91 in GNER/Intercity Swallow livery
Class 43 in GNER/Intercity Swallow livery
Class 317 EMU in Network SouthEast livery

4 out of 5 stars WHERE ARE THE FRIEGHT TRAINS   December 7, 2007

As an ex railwayman of 32 years service ive travelled this route quite a lot of times and I find that this simultation part 1 and part 2 EAST COAST EXPRESS is great, it brings back a lot of memorys of when I worked the route both as a fireman and then as a guard.
The only thing I complain about is the lack of trains in the stations and the total lack of freight trains en route or even in the deserted sidings, how much extra time would it take for the makers of these great simulations to include more trains in platforms/sidings/loops/and even add some passengers on the platforms instead of seing a deserted platform on arrival into a station.
I wrote an E/Mail to the makers to see if the EAST COAST EXPRESS was being extended past York and they said there are no plans at all in the near future to extend the line past York, I see the line doe's extend up to Skelton Bridge before it stops it would be great to see it extended to Newcastle and then on to Edinburgh, We live in hope though.
That apart as ive said the EAST COAST EXPRESS PARTS ONE & TWO ARE FANTASTIC, I cant keep off them, I am getting the Leeds Loop add on this weekend.

5 out of 5 stars 5 Stars!   October 2, 2007

East Coast Express Part 1 is just ace! I play and play on it as much as i can. I also own Part 2 and put together makes a brilliant route. I love running loads of engines on it, doing the 30 activites and also making my own with the Flying Scotsman. I use this route much of the time and live near retford and it looks just like it. It is a must have for all GNER Fans!

3 out of 5 stars Activities made little sense   May 25, 2007

Scenery and performance were fine, but activity evaluation made little sense.
Two examples will suffice. Activity 4 says take GNER 225 to King's Cross, stopping ONLY at Stevenage. I tried it, only to be told that I failed to stop at three stations. I tried activity 5. I was told that I failed to stop at 11 stations! Unless there is something seriously wrong with my eyesight, there aren't 11 stations on that route. Maybe I'm missing something.

5 out of 5 stars Best add on I've played   February 16, 2007

I've purchased several add-ons for Microsoft Train Simulator and this is by far the best - it runs very smoothly on medium settings on my 3 year old Pentium 4 (3 ghz, 1gb ram, 256 video card). Excellent graphics and brilliant depiction of route.... please keep adding on to the route to take it up to Scotland!
