5 out of 5 stars The Best Space Simulator/ RPG game on the market   December 1, 2008
As a big fan of the X series and many days worth of gameplay on X3 reunion; i can say that X3 terran conflict has the following pros and cons (i have currently played X3TC v1.2.1 for 1day or 24hrs total gameplay):
Pros:
Incredibly diverse and Huge universe (reunions universe was big this is even bigger!)
Graphics have improved but not immensly
The freedom this game provides is unmatched by any other game
The interface and ability to manage your own fleet has been imporved GREATLY!
There is a silly amount (200-300+) of ships u can choose from that are all incredible!
Storyline is good
The work done on the new Terran race is very well done and designed and they have very accuratley and nicely portrayed our own solar system!
Egosoft is the best at redeveloping and reworking its products; it releases patches promptly and they continously enhance gameplay.

Cons:
If your one of those people that wants a multiplayer look elsewere, but for most ppl and fans the singleplayer is why you buy this game because this game provides the most hrs gameplay. X3TC and its predecessors have entertained me more than any other game (including crysis, bioshock, freelancer etc)
The missions are slightly buggy because when its says really hard they can be either incredibly difficult or impossible or very easy and missions stated as very easy can be incredibly hard. Egosoft have said they are working on the issue. This doesnt affect gameplay to much if anything it makes the game more challenging.

The game requires alot out of your RAM, and Graphics. In every sector of this game there are literally hundreds of ships and many stations in particular in heavily populated sectors, not to mention big battles. I currently have : Core 2 duo 6420 @3.41, 2gb(1066mhz), asus commando and a Nvidia 7950GT (512mb,550,1500) I can run it well on high at 1240 by 768 but wen i turn on AA it startes to lag and as a result, id recommend 3gb ram and a 8 series or 9series Gcard.

4 out of 5 stars Not for those who aren't paitent.   November 27, 2008

I'm an elite veteran, & have also played X-BTF & various flight sims. So in this respect I am not a novice gamer.

So, lets start with my first impressions of X3:TC.

The learning curve is like a brick wall. I played for three hours & felt like I was going nowhere in the game I got to a point in the plot line where I could go no further. I almost gave up.

I then decided to explore & try different things. I discovered capturing ships (woooo) & loads of different mission types. After some head scratching - I've sorted an independent trader to run about making money while I explore & blow things up. Jump-drives help enormously with the wait time between sectors & travelling. . . .

The game is massive, there is so much to do. I'm glad I persevered through the learning curve and now feel as if I'm actually progressing.

Good points:
- Very immersive
- Massive Game play potential- although you probabily won't want to replay from scratch.
- Pretty
- Guns, big guns.

Bad points:
- Vertical learning curve.
- Bugged missions
- Random deaths by autopilot errors.
- Slow (at times)

On the whole I'm really enjoying the game.

If you, like some of the other reviewers have given up - I suggest you give it another shot. Pop into the official game forums for hints, tips & maps.

1 out of 5 stars This is a BORING Elite   November 21, 2008

I really wanted to like this game but it is the single dullest one I have ever played. You go from gate to gate to gate to gate dock undock, go speak to commander this or Lt this ... sigh...its very difficult to get into. I could not for the life of me work out how to trade and because there is no LIVE economy (playing against other players) its anyone guess if your getting a good deal or not. I havent been able to trade as yet and I have been playing for 3 hours.

I spent more time staring out of the living room window waiting for my ship to hyperdrive though gates than I did actually interacting with the game. Honestly if you liked elite this is PANTS compared to it. Waste of cash.

5 out of 5 stars Life sucking game.   November 10, 2008

The return of the ultimate space strategy game.
This is my favourite game of all time, I built my first PC just so I could play X2 with maxxed graphics and had X3 TC on pre order for ages and I am not disappointed.
Yes there are bugs but any fan of the X universe knows they will get sorted in the end, indeed two patches in the first week.
There are the usual performance issues but my AMD 3800 dual core, 2 gig of ram and crippled AGP 7800 gs oc graphics card system displays it fine at 1600X1050 (21 inch widescreen).
And this is the key thing. I don't care if some missions are buggy or I can't play it on full settings this game is all about GAMEPLAY. I can do anything I want in this game fight, trade, steal, be a hero or a villain. And the buzz you get when you make an 800,000 profit or capture a much bigger opponent and sell or use his ship never fades.

Key Features
Huge sector map
Boarding Marines!
Much larger array of sub plots and missions
An awful lot of new ships
Very good manual

An example of why I love this game; I had been doing some subplot missions and had hired a transporters to take a station I had bought through a few sectors. I flew on ahead and in the next sector a couple of Xenon frigates had appeared and were trashing most of the sector. I was only in an M4 small fighter and not wanting to spend my savings of 36 million credits on a bigger ship I spent the next hour flying round picking up goodies that had been dropped by ships that had been whacked and wondering what to do. Just as I decided to give up and do something else a battle group from another race arrived. I parked up about 10 km away and watched a better space battle than you get in films!
Going to spend the next week saving 500 million for a couple of destroyers of my own then try laying waste to a Xenon sector. Forget any plots for a while.
Now that's GAMEPLAY
Just be prepared to play this for months and check the egosoft forums.

5 out of 5 stars As good as PC games get   November 5, 2008

Having played space trading/combat games all the way from the original Elite(showing my age!), I would say this is as good as PC games get. The graphics are excellent, the storyline so far is good, but the joy of this game for me is in the complexity. Yes, it is a steep learning curve at first. This is a truly massive game with virtually unlimited different paths you can take. You can't finish this in hours, you can't even finish it in days, it will keep you busy for months or longer! It's not perfect, there are some minor bugs but updates are pretty regular and there is an excellent forum. If you are looking for a game that is not just blasting away, a game that creates a whole other universe then this is it.
