Amazon.co.uk Review In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called Runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes. In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed and now you are being hunted. You are a Runner called Faith - and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story. Mirror’s Edge delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith’s world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous. Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain, in this city, you will learn how to run.

Excellent..........In Areas December 5, 2008 What can I say, when it came out I wasn't all that bothered about this game, having seen the reviews for it and looking deeper finding the trailer i though it would be worth the 30 quid i paid for it.
Having said this i found the game at the start AMAZING! the combat system has come under alot of scrutiny but i feel it is excellently adaped, alot of people say it isn't, but what they are not thinking is the character is a slim small woman, of course you are going to not be able to run at full speed when carrying a gun or have the physical strength to wrestle a guard, the shooting isn't great but then the game tries to if anything to steer you away from using weapons and to use the surroundings to your advantage, running up walls etc.
The story mode is way to short for my liking, 4 hours seems to be the max that i must have spent on this game. The racing mode, grows more and more frustrating as time wears on, when trying to find different/quicker routes you mostly end up splatterd on the pavement 90 storeys below.
I would say this game is a must play, probably best to rent before though.

Are you a masochist?
Have you played more first person shooters then you can shake a preverbial stick at and fancy a change?
Have you always wanted to wear womens cloths?
If you answered 'YES' to any of the above then this is the game for YOU. But there is only one way to play a game like this, so repeat after me: 'I -insert name here- do solemly sware not to use a firearm during the coarse of playing mirrors edge, or at any point set the difficulty below medium, because easy is for Pussies'
By making this pledge you will find the game more challenging and more importantly earn youself an ACHIEVEMENT (<-----So needs girlfriend). Off the bat you will notice the crisp clean visuals and soothing ambiance, as you wisk your way from roof top to roof top, enjoying the emersive feel of your caracters movements and vocalisations(farcry 2 take note), making you feel like your literally in her shoes (and cool shoes they are too). Enjoy this time of tranquility while it lasts, for t'is short lived, soon you will come face to face with... The Rozzers 'OH NO'(so not using capitals to create hightened sense of drama). From this point on you will be running faster then games developers run from Uwe Boll. If you are to survive, you must learn the art of disarming, learn to spoil your enemys prostate with a sliding kick, and later on when you meet the persuit rozzers (or as i said at the time 'oh no, NINJAS') learn to run away.
In short the game is a pure pulse pounder, a must for all armchair addrenaline junkies. Propare to spend alot of your time chacing faster times in the 'speed run' and 'time trial' before realising what a geek you've become. But be warned, as much as i love this game, it is not perfect. The game is not an open world, but this alone means nothing as open world games can be weaker then liniar ones(Assasins Creed, ArmA, Farcry 2). You will Die, a lot, and some times it will not seem like its your fault, but checkpoints are well placed, so this is not so bad and besides, its meant to be challenging.
Every true gamer should play this game, buy it, borrow it, rent it, steal it (no wait, scratch that). Love it or hate it, its a change from the norm and a welcome one at that.

Are all the other reviewers here masochists? I cannot emphasise enough that THIS IS NOT AN OPEN WORLD PARKOUR GAME. This is a con that is misdirecting players.
Mirror's Edge is a first person racing/platform game set in a rat's maze. It is not about agility, perspective, imagination, and daring. It is about memorization, and it is about speed.
A quick capsule review of M.E. "gameplay": Use trial and error and die a million times trying to memorise the escape route the level designers planned for you, as unseen police marksmen nail you from a distance.
That's it. There's really nothing more. There's a time trial, where they remove the police marksmen, but otherwise... that's it.
There are moments when it works. But the game is so terribly designed that these moments of speed and coordination are rare and incredibly difficult to achieve, rather than being the defacto gameplay experience after an hour or so of play.
If you want beautiful free running, buy Ubisofts new Prince of Persia game. I play-tested a beta and THAT is open world free running - fluid, beautiful, and intuitive.
However, if you are a masochist with lots of free time and you've already played the dozen other brilliant games which have been released this quarter, and you still can't think of anything else you want to play, and you think Mirror's Edge design looks kinda cool, and well, a lot of other people say it's really good, then take my advice, and read a book.
Short but Sweet November 24, 2008 As per the review title this brief comment is designed to capture the pertinent points to gamers and is thus short and sweet.
The game brings something new to the console gaming market with a fast paced and still taxing challenge, is it revolutionary? No, however there is little else available that this game can be compared to.
The graphics are clean, even sterile in appearance however this benefits the futuristic theme to the timeline of the story and it is fresh to see in a game era that is filled with dark foreboding world environments.
The fluidity of the animations is done well with little to no glitches and the control system is simple and no more complicated than necissary.
Combat is quick and easy provided that you do not, as a player, attempt to 'shoot it out' as the game designers have stayed away from....you are after all a 'Runner'.
Level design is good however linear and this may frustrate FPS players who are increasingly being granted free worlds such as Crysis/STALKER etc but this game must be viewed as a game to pick up and play for 30 minutes of fun.
Final synopisis - A fun, quick paced racer with a little story bolted on, all in all a fresh new game and well done to the producers as this game provided more fun than Assasins Creed.
Another one EDGE got wrong November 18, 2008 So nice to not have to shoot everything for once. This game has been slightly over hyped so to bring it back to earth... Cut scenes awful even if they are a cover for loading. When you briefly get guns the aiming is twitchy. Its not open/sandbox as it might have been portrayed. Paths are linear with only a few local options for different routes. Never really get a chance to get a long fast run. Combat and disarming are weak. Push the button objectives, loading elevators, crawling in ducts are all a bit old school. You will fall off buildings and die hundreds of times... ...actually dying is fine as plenty of well placed checkpoints and reload is quick and you get to have another crack at that impossible looking run and jump, core game play mechanics are so solid and enjoyable. Once the well designed controls become second nature and you learn the rules of the game it's exhilarating and atmospheric. Check the demo to see if you will enjoy. Very much looking forward to the next one more than any other game out. Remember this is the first game in a new IP , always going to be difficult but it has passed the test so should have more budget and be able to increase the scope for the next one. Can't wait. I really recommend if you are tired of shooting things.
