5 out of 5 stars rock out!   November 21, 2008
Mine arrived promptly, thanks Amazon!

The drums: feel great, easily adjustable in height, although the kick peddle takes some getting used to. The wii remote slots in the top, and the whole kit runs off it, there is no separate power source, so make sure your stocked up on AA battery's for your wii remotes. The drumsticks are wooden, and the build quality of all is excellent.

The guitar: heavier than the les Paul controller and slightly larger in size so wont fit in my guitar controller carry bag : -(. Build quality feels better than the les Paul controller though. Guitar runs off wii remote like drums and previous guitars. The whammy bar is much better, there's a star power button that you can much more easily hit with your palm while strumming, and the new touch sensitive strip allows some insane note combo's to be hit, as well as the tap function for strumming which I never use.

You can use the les Paul guitar controller to play the game just as well as with the new guitar.

You need a wii remote for each instrument.

There are 80 odd songs to play, none of which contain explicit lyrics.

There are not very many songs for download online, although the new James bond one is on there (jack white and Alicia keys)

For GH gods: the hammer-on window is not like GH3, its small, requires accuracy.

all instruments are really responsive except the mic which has a little bit of sound lag, not major,

this game plays best on tube teles where there is no lag, although lag can be adjusted in game for all tv's.

I preference the guitar hero games, and would recommend them over any other games in the genre.

Lastly Amazon's price is about as good as it gets, doubt you'll find it cheaper elsewhere, not with great delivery anyway.

all the best

3 out of 5 stars New hero in town   November 18, 2008

Got the game the day it came out and have had much fun with it since. I live with 2 other guys so obviously it's great for a bit of multiplayer gaming.

I have had some problems though. My guitar was randomly playing notes. On investigation i realised it was the new touch sensitive bar. As i wasn't using it I decided to tackle the problem. (Warning, this will most probably invalidate the warranty on the guitar) Firstly, i took the neck off the body and unscrewed the back cover of the neck. Took out the circuitry and unsoldered the wires connected to touchpad. Put it all back together and now it's working fine (although i am unable to use the touchpad obviously). Besides this fault the guitar feels great and i personally find the new star power button very useful.

I've also had a problem with the drums. The red pad is not as responsive as the rest and to get it to register (without feeling like you're hitting it so hard you're going to snap a drumstick) a hit you have to hit it dead centre. Not the easiest thing when you're rocking through a bit of fleetwood mac! Red Octane (the makers of the peripherals) have released a fix for this. On their website you can get a free USB to midi cable (with your drum serial code). This enables you to hook the drums to your PC where you can download a program which will allow you to adjust the sensitivity of your drums. I haven't received this yet but all reports suggest that this fixes the problem.

These two issues are in my opinion major problems and are the reason that i have only given this game 3 stars. However, if you are prepared to deal with this there is a great game waiting for you. The song list in my opinion is much better than GH3. And the songs are all in gigs now. No going back to the menu to select a song, you just play the whole gig. Also, the songs are all unlocked through gigs instead of having to buy loads as bonus songs as in GH3. Free play is also better than GH3 because you can create a gig of 6 songs so you can select any 6 songs you have unlocked and play them back to back (instead of just 1 song then going back to the menu).

All in all this game is extremely fun!!!! It is just let down by poor peripherals which is unnacceptable for the cost of the game.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing...I'm afraid...   November 17, 2008

well the reviews are good here, but i was very disappointed......i have guitar hero 3 and love it and was looking forwared to this with the drums and a "free" bass guitar!
well the guitar is a White Les Paul that i got with GH3 which you can use as a bass, there is NO dedicated bass for the wii i could suffer that, but i set up the drums and the yellow symbol didn't work at all and even if it did i found the drum sound in the game rubbish it was too low and yes i did turn all the volumes in game up. (wii music drums are far better sounding)
to me the drums would be an expensive 5 minute wonder, i have read a lot of threads on the forums and there are many problems but some people will be happy.

4 out of 5 stars Absolutly amazing game   November 16, 2008

Absolutely amazing game. Those of you whom have played GH3 will be absolutely amazed at how much more content has been fit into this game. With about 80 tracks, a record function in which to record your own music for upload to the internet for others to play or to keep on your own console, Mii Freestyle function on which you can play chord cards which are an extremely easy way to get used to using all 5 fret buttons, a create a character functions allowing you to create your own rock star (players of the tony hawks series will very easily pick this up) and now you don't have to pick a guitar from a library of basic models, you can design your own. Of course, there's also the band features. You can play on your own or as a band with your mates.

The guitar now has a "slider" (basically a long touch pad like the one on your laptop) on which you can strum, whammy and hammer on. The new whammy bar is not only longer and thus easier to reach but also much smoother to use. There is also a star power button right under where your palm sits when you play the strum bar. The new wood finish is also a great look.

Then there's the microphone. It's comfortable to use, has a cable length that's good enough for anyone who wants to be a distance away from the TV at which you can still read the lyrics (which are a little small. not sure if you can change the size tbh though). You will need a remote for this too in case your wondering.

Now for the drum kit. Absolutely amazing in two words. It feels perfect, looks brilliant and everything is laid out perfectly. Everything that you'd like to be adjustable is so you can have the cymbals at the height you like and you can change the height of the kit to suit your sofa, not the guys who designed it.

Unfortunately, this is where most of my few gripes are. The stand needs a little work done on it. The quick release clips on it are a little weedy, the kick peddle doesn't feel quite right, the stand can't be disassembled so, unless you want to show it off in all it's glory, you'll need a space behind your sofa about half the size of it for storage. Also, it does need a little more space in the remote holder to shove your wrist strap. (i know I've been really picky there for a brand new peripheral but if we don't ask, we wont get on the next version of it). Then with the guitar. Perfect in almost every way. Just a few requests for the next version though. Why put an amazing idea like the star power button on and not put one in easy reach of the thing you want people to start strumming with. Please please please shove one near the slider. Please shove some colour on the neck where the slider is so you can see where each fret section for it is without lifting the guitar. Put a small ridge or dot on the yellow section so you can find the frets without looking. Finally, shove a + button in an easier to reach place. I hate missing a tonne of notes when i need to get the front door.

I would like to stress that though these problems are there, they aren't in your face. This is an absolutely amazing game. You will not be disappointed at your purchase. Granted, it is glorified karaoke. But who doesn't like karaoke when your having a few pints with your mates? If your a gamer, you'll be playing 24hours a day until you've unlocked everything. If your a nerd, you'll be playing with the synthesizer functions until your hearts contempt. If your anyone else, there is a cheat to unlock all the tracks on quick play (go to cheats in options, enter new cheat, BBRGGBBY, find it in the list of cheats and turn it on) Simply put, this is a game everyone will love and play for hours.

5 out of 5 stars Watch Out Pete Townsend, Here I Come..........   November 16, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I pre ordered and received the Guitar Hero World Tour bundle and free guitar on 14 Nov 08, ready to unleash some serious anger on the drum kit. Although, as previously mentioned in almost all the other reviews, each instrument requires a seperate controller. A minor point which took my wallet pleasantly by surprise! The drum kit and guitars take moments to set up,and once my kids had practised their Pete Townsend impressions we were ready to start. The game is fantastic, very addictive, easy to learn and play. I do have two little points i beleive are worth mentioning. Unless you have surround sound, it is quite difficut to hear the drums over the thud of the drum stick on the rubber pads. I beleive you can alter the volume of each instrument though. Finally, the game has 85 songs to have a go at, from the Sex Pistols to the eagles, but only a handfull that i knew, If you like heavy metal, you will love it. You can buy more songs online though. Overall, a cracking gift to myself, if i could get a go on it. 10/10. Enjoy.
