A new kind of driving game ... July 12, 2005 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Having tried all the major driving/racing games, and being disappointed with all except WRC4, I hoped a love of Alfa Romeos' would be enough to keep me interested in Squadra Corse Alfa Romeo. It was ... but the game play and car physics are also excellent. In fact, I think it puts many of the others to shame, particularly the over-rated Gran Turismo. The cars handle in as realistic a way as you can expect and are fun to drive. However, it is the driver(s) that make the difference in this game. Start of as a rookie and work your way through the ranks, building up your skills such as 'heart', 'vision', intimidation' and 'recovery' ability. As you progress, the competition also gets better ... with some even playing dirty tricks on you by spinning you off the track. The more you go off, the more damage you do to your car, and you can end up being forced to retire due to your bad driving. I've noticed some indifferent reviews of this game, but it really does set new benchmarks all round. I tink there are some tired old gamers here who cannot see the wood for the trees. This game really is worth trying. For me, this is one of those rare games that will not find it's way on to eBay a few weeks after buying it.
