Product Description The first game in the Assassin's Creed franchise is set in 1191 AD, when the Third Crusade was tearing the Holy Land apart. Shrouded in secrecy and feared for their ruthlessness, the Assassins intend to stop the hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict. Players, assuming the role of the main character Altair, will have the power to throw their immediate environment into chaos and to shape events during this pivotal moment in history.
Amazon.co.uk Preview It's easy to see why there was so much fighting amongst the console manufacturers to try and make this game a format exclusive. Where early launch titles may have disappointed this game not only looks like a next generation game but it plays like it too. Taken at face value the story casts you as an Arabic fighter in 1191, out to assassinate the nine Western leaders of the Third Crusade. There is more to the story than that though making it more than simple historical adventure it first seems.Since it's developed by many of the same team behind Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, it's no surprise to find the game using many of the same ideas. With the bold claim that you can climb on or over anything in the game world that sticks out more than two inches, this allows incredible freedom of movement, with a style of acrobatics heavily influenced by Parkour/free running. The game also innovates in terms of combat, with each of the face buttons controlling a different area of the body, rather like a marionette. As such one button controls the feet, one your open hand, one your weapon hand and the other your head. As an assassin stealth plays an important role in the game too, but here it's often a case of hiding in plain sight as you mill around inside large crowds of people. Everyone will react to you realistically though, so if you go around pushing people out of the way, or even killing them, the crowd will react and report you. With stunning graphics and genuinely innovative gameplay this is destined to be one of the most important releases of the year. HARRISON DENT

Good all round. September 20, 2008 Thsi game is a hidden gem, it lacks a mulitplayer mode but in esscence its single player is a stunning creation.
The graphics are sound and the missions vary in difficulty, the story is intriguing and the skills needed to complete the objectives are easily mastered.some might think too easily!
The game is however a little repetitive but the changing landscape and challenging mission provide adequate means of enjoyment. Horse riding, areial free running and high dives from tall buildings are great fun and provide much excitement to a new commer but by the end of the game they lack thier sparkle.
Its a good game to come back to with a renewed vigour after playing the newest blockbuster it is solid all round and in a sense might be underacheiving slightly!
Fell for the hype; silly me September 13, 2008 Wow, this was really a big letdown for me. Not sure what i was expecting but this was not it. Maybe having the whole past life thing revealed straight off ruined the experience or maybe it was just so dull and tedious. I played it for a few hours and got no where, whether this means i suck as a games player (true) or that i simply could not get into the flow of things. Looking back, a lot was made of the fact that one of the producers was a "hot" girl (no idea what her name was) and somehow that made this game special. It did not.
Ubisoft should be ashamed September 12, 2008 This could have been a great game, but Ubisoft seem to have done their speciality of sucking all the fun out of something potentially good. The graphics are excellent, and the control system works really well, and the AI is pretty good. The missions as everyone has pointed out are repetitive. The pointless modern day laboratory scenes seem just tacked on to make it easy to turn into a franchise. The character of the main character, well he just doesn't have one. You have to press the start button about 8 times the load the game, made all the more annoying by it freezing constantly. The fact that this won so many awards makes me think their is something seriously rotten at the heart of the games industry.
Confusing? August 30, 2008 This game is good if you can think things through really well (the ending really confused me) and if you want to do it really steathily. Ok its fun in some parts bt as others have said its really repiditive. If you like the sound of it rent it out first then consider buying it. Overall its Ok
Travel, kill somebody, Travel, kill somebody, Travel, Kill somebody. August 30, 2008 I think the title speaks for it's self. Very good graphics which is why i put 2 stars and not 1! I have not yet progressed in this game but nothing makes me want to!! Very repetitive!! Dont really understand the story but thats coz i aint interested in it. Some people love this game but if your looking for more variety this is not the game to get!!
