Poor quality November 24, 2008 Delivered OK. Worked first time OK, then the problems. Media viewing side of kit stopped so couldnt view on TV. No answer to my phone calls so I emailed them (Envizage). Condescending replies when I asked for help. Had a new box also with problems. Ended up costing me 10 in both of the return charges that were not refunded when I asked for my money back. Wont go to "Envizage" again.
Great Value, Great Product October 24, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
While I appreciate the comments others have made here, I have to say that for my purposes I think this is a fantastic product. I am using a 29" rear projection Toshiba widescreen TV. The Cyclone was very easy to set up. I found the best way forward was to set up folders reflecting the Amazon main DVD genres and just dropped all my AVI files in them. Before buying the Cyclone, I had been toying with the idea of Apple TV. I was initially taken with the idea of streaming my videos around the network, but the more I thought about Apple TV the less I liked the idea of having to run computer kit to serve the files, when I actually just wanted to watch TV. The Cyclone unit has 1TB of space, whereas Apple TV has at most 160GB (and is twice the price) and it was this that finally made up my mind for me. This unit is small and light and allows me to move my movies around the house with a great deal of ease (and I am quite unsteady on my feet). At the end of the day, it really is no hassle to unplug the mains and the RCA cable and reconnect them to another TV. It also means I can take my movies with me when traveling. Minor gripes (very minor) The remote is simple to operate but I found the layout of the scan and skip buttons to be a bit odd. Not as natural as I would like, but thats a personal thing. I would have put these next to each other, rather than above each other. The only other thing is that the menu, though dead easy to use, is a little cumbersome. It shows 8 titles onscreen at a time. My problem is that if for example, I choose a genre and in there I have say 6 pages of titles and I have been viewing a title on page 4, there is no obvious quick way to go back out of the genre. I seem to have to scroll through to page 1 and find the "Up Directory" Icon to get out. There is a Main Menu button, but having gone back there, if I choose Movies I end up back at the same title again. These are very minor in my opinion and the overall performance vastly compensates for this. The menu problem is something that could be sorted via a Firmware update. All in all Superb value. Really pleased I chose it.
Good for the money October 22, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Looks nice and easy to use, remote control works fine but there is just something missing. The last media player I bought was a 160GB one about 2 years ago. This was a great piece of kit, Composite video out, HD composite and scart out. I know this has just the video composite out but I do miss the extra outputs.
You will need to upgrade the firmware for this media player to recognise your divx and putting the files just in the route folder won't work, they have to go in a folder first.
I will probably use for a while but when I have a bit of spare cash I will buy a housing with more outputs and ethernet connectivity and swap the drive.
not "Exactly what it says on the tin" October 10, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Most of my files don't actually play on this, a few do but most come out without, picture, sound, come up corrupt or ultimately, don't play at all. There seems to be a way to upgrade it but its impossible to find out how. Don't recommend it if you are going to play a variety of videos.
1tb cyclone external media player October 8, 2008 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Bought this product with the understanding that I could play vob files(dvd), player can only play 1 vob file, if you have multiple vob files it freezes between vob file and sometimes starts half way through the next chapter. Please note that almost all dvd's are around 4 to 6 vob files, also unit comes with fat32 file sytem, it states that works with ntfs, you can change to ntfs but then the player doesn't see the film at all. Works with divx, but you lose picture quality and take forever to convert, nice looking player though and very small and quite.
