This is AWESOME! December 3, 2008 What a new way to play games! This is very fun and hugely entertaining, It gives you the idea you're in the game!
No game at all November 29, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is no game. Just EA strutting their graphics chops. Avoid at all costs unless you really want to spend good money on a PS3 graphics demo.
Not a game..... November 29, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
....more like a series of trial and error sandboxes. Possibly up there with the latter stages of Pyschonauts in frustration-terms ie extremely frustrating. If you don't mind dying A LOT and and you can afford to buy a new TV when you throw your pad at your current one then this game's for you, otherwise AVOID.
Sheer Brilliance! November 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading the reviews below I thought I had to post my own, I've completed the game (it is quite short, 9 chapters in all) and thought it was brilliant, well worth the money!
The graphics are unique to this game, scenery is mainly white with 'Runner Vision' highlighting some objects in red. It creates quite a cartoony look to the game, but it works.
However the game does have some flaws, as noted. The combat can, at times, be frustrating, as you may die a few times trying to figure out the best way to get through an area, but this provides more of a challenge then anything else and I quite enjoyed playing through it looking for new ways to get through the game.
The helicopter chases are also quite exciting, as you have to move quickly and plan ahead in order to get away from the barrage of bullets constantly following you. Here one false move can cause you to fall to your death or be torn apart by a minigun, this creates a sense of urgency as you scale scale, jump from rooftop to rooftop and slide under air vents.
The story in itself leaves a bit to be desired, as though it is filled with twists, some of them are fairly obvious.
However overall I rate this game 4/5, because although it has flaws (like many, many games) it is great fun to play through and even though the story is short, the PS3 trophies, the time trials and the speed runs will keep you coming back for more.
A hollow, frustrating experience November 22, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Yes, it has a distinctive graphical style, but that is where the originality ends. I wanted to love it, I really did.
As mentioned elsewhere - it is very linear - there is one way through each level and that is it. This is most definitely NOT a next-gen game. Follow a set route and occasionally press a button - whoop-de-doo. Here we are with a next gen PS3 and a nicely rendered city that we could explore...but no, we run along a set route and occasionally press a button. Oh, and there's the odd hidden bag to collect (which makes all the difference!).
The running and jumping are fun for a while (a little while), don't get me wrong, but when the seemingly endless succession of helicopters begin to show up, cutting you to shreds while you're trying to work out where to go next, it begins to get annoying. Then you get onto the harder sections with harder jumps to be made etc, and there's no time to work out why you keep plunging to your death as the helicopter will get you if you try to do anything more than jump to your death before they can get you. You will get sick of the sound of helicopter mini-guns and the plunging, wind-rushing sound effect as you fall to your death (assuming you haven't been shot first). The repetitive replaying of the same section, trying to make the same jump again and again and again, or trying to get past the same mass of heavily armed SWAT thugs protected by no more than a vest-top, gets really tedious and sucks all pleasure out of the game.
I played the demo and liked it enough to buy the game, but the demo doesn't include any of the truly frustratingly difficult sections or helicopter pursuits - I say "pursuit", but this makes it sound more exciting than it is - generally the helicopter just hovers nearby, firing away while you try to scramble over the scenery. The nice touches that make the demo special (the look of it, the feel of really being there, the crashing through doors etc.) get old fast in the full game. One of the features that you notice in the demo is your body - your hands and feet are all there! But after a short time in the full game you just don't notice that any nore.
To sum up - it's massively frustrating and a very shallow experience. If you want fun and a game with some depth to it, I reckon you need to look elsewhere. If you've been seduced by the demo, think it through before parting with your cash, because the novelty that shines through in the demo soon wears off, and there's very little substance beneath it.
Could have been absolutely awesome and truly next-gen, but it isn't. It's going back.
