Amazon.co.uk Preview In a nutshell: Video games based on movies have never had a terrific track record but this looks like breaking the mould forever. Not only is the Peter Jackson himself involved; but so is the Michel Ancel, creator of video game classics such as Rayman. The results look extraordinary. The lowdown: You take on the roles of both Jack Driscoll and the mighty Kong. Being the big monkey is great, naturally, but the feeling of power is neatly turned on its head when you play as the considerably more vulnerable Jack. Overall, it's an intense, absorbing romp. Most exciting moment: Escaping down some white water rapids as a puny human, chased by two tyrannosaurs rex. Since you ask: Peter Jackson loved Michel Ancel's Beyond Good & Evil game so much that he asked him to make Kong. The bottom line: Potentially, the most cinematic video game ever made. Harrison Dent

It's got the Kong bit right but it's hardly a king...... December 17, 2007 Now, I expect that after sitting through Peter Jackson's film of the same name you'd get the feeling you'd want to be Kong. Well after sitting through it myself in my then nearest local multiplex two years ago I was quite keen myself, especially after playing the demo where you take on the V-Rex's.
However this, to me, is a game that's more style over substance. What I am trying to say is that upon first playing the game you think it's great but the novelty soon wears off. The graphics are nice for an old Xbox but the gameplay simply isn't indepth enough when you play as either Kong or Jack and to round it off, there isn't really any secrets or anything sepctaular to unlock upon completion of the game. The game starts off rather hard in places but then it soon gets really easy in most parts, meaning that you'll soon make your way through it.
It's one of those games that, if you buy it, you'll probably soon trade it back in. I would have given it two stars for the gameplay alone but seeing as the graphics aren't too bad I'll give it the extra one more.
At the end of the day the story of Kong is something that doesn't really bode to games well, no matter how good it is. What can we expect in the future on the 360? King Kong 2: This Time It's Personal?

Simply the best game I have played on the Xbox. Ok, so it is quite short, but the gameplay is fantastic. There are puzzles and trickier bits when playing as Jack, but the real highlight of the game is the awesome power of Kong - never mind that these sections are pretty simple. Totally satisfying.
Pretty good May 31, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This game is very realistic (apart from the fact that there's a 30ft monkey in it). What i mean by realistic is that you really have to watch your ammo, you're not invincible and it has no HUD. This gives it a very cinematic effect, with quite detailed graphics and fairly good gameplay. You play as Jack most of the time but there are some levels where you get to play as Kong. These are the coolest levels in the game. Throw stuff everywhere and flatten dinosaurs and, in my favorite level in new york, cause havoc blowing cars up! Overall, this game is good but is nothing special.
Great-but short (got it on Christamas, finished boxing day) January 4, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The gameplay was great and i loved many of the problem-solving levels in which you had to use fire bones levers insects guns and pretty much everything the map has to offer in order to kill dinosaurs get through thorn and protect your mates. Playing as king kong is draw-brakeingly fun with easy melee attacks in very difficult situations (like killing a t-rex with your your bare hands while natives fire flaming spears at you).Killing dinosaurs and giant bugs alike with nothing but a bone is challenging and will keep you hooked for hours, two days to be exact, because thats how long it takes to complete. this is way i gave it only 4 stars, amzing game but faaaaaaaaaar to short with a disappointing end level, but still one of the best movie-based games in years.
King Kong All The Way!! December 31, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is basically the best xbox game out today! The number of amazing features in this game is simply awesome and uncountable. I mean the graphics in this game... WHOA! They are totally shocking. The controls are simple and the best thing about the game is you play as both Jack and you can live the legend as Kong. The game is simple and short and the missions are somewhat varyed in a way. As Jack you get to use weapons like machine guns, shotguns, handguns, spears and even Bones! You also get to fight hugh millepede things, fight bats, funny crabby things, dinosaurs, spiders and even V- Rexs! (although you cannot kill V-Rexs as Jack, only as Kong). And as Kong you get to fight V-Rexs, Giant Worms, Bats and many more! as Kong you can rip things in half, grab and throw objects, rip jaws in half throw enemies, swing on branches, scale walls and even go into fury mode which is when Kong gets really mad and you can tear everything apart. I got this game for Christmas and as soon as I the disc in the console I couldn't put the controller down!!FIVE WELL DESERVED STARS!! *****
