Very good item! September 22, 2007 I bought that hard plastic mat as the smooth one always slips when you begin to dance faster.
I'm playing Dancing stage games, so I just use the basic arrows (up-down-left-right). Everythings works Ok, the pad doesn't move, even on the carpet.
It's not very heavy, so easy to minipulate, but it takes some room to have it at home : I leave it against the wall.
My husband complains i'ts rather smaller than a "true" pad : for me it's not a problem as I have short legs :D The rund shape of the buttons causes some "almost" when first playing, but after some song, you get used to it.
I think you can comfortably dance quicker with that pad, than with the soft ones, and i'ts cheaper and lighter than a metal one.
Persevere! August 12, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I decided to try out buying this mat because I feel spending 100 on a metal one is just a bit too much, even for me, and the normal plastic mats slip and slide all over the place, not to mention the buttons seem to have blip attacks which can ruin your 100 combo on Dancing Stage Fusion which can be incredibly frustrating!
Upon this mats arrival I realised it was actually a little bigger than I'd imagined it to be and it certainly has a well made feel to it. I don't have Dance: UK or any dance game that uses diagonals so I've only been able to test the horizontal and vertical buttons properly however the diagonals double up as the face (X, circle etc.) buttons for your PS2, so you don't have to switch pads to select songs or anything.
When I first tested it I got pretty annoyed with it and thought it might have been broken as the buttons seemed to mis-fire on the menus and the pad seemed to be selecting songs for me and not the other way round, however I decided I'd give it a decent go on a fair few songs first as I didn't exactly fancy sending such a huge item back!
After wearing it in on a couple of songs I can conclude that this is actually a very good mat, it's not perfect as you have to really stomp on the pads when selecting songs or the buttons don't seem to work quite as they should but in game it works faultlessly and due to it being heavy duty and hard plastic you can play as you would in the arcades, rather than tip-toeing like I found myself doing on soft mats.
I'd definitely recommend this to others but as I said when selecting the songs make sure you really stamp on left and right otherwise you're going to have a lot of frustration going back and forth through menus! Good value for money for the thirty quid I paid.
Oh and the red LED's that light up when you hit the pads is a nice touch too!
Very Disappointed July 31, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased 2 of these Dance Stage's and have had to return both of them as they were faulty (and both carried the same fault, right arrow panel not functioning properly), I would not recommend purchasing this product to anyone.
The next step up! June 7, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I wasn't sure whether to buy this or not due to the lack of info on it, but I'm glad I did. I previously had a couple of soft mats, one of which broke. So I thought I'd upgrade to something better.
This mat has numerous small rubber pads on its back, and so doesn't move or slip around. It works great with my setup - PC with EMS USB2 adapter running Stepmania.
I recommend this for anyone looking to move beyond soft mats, but doesn't want a metal one. The mat is no longer stopping me from improving my dancing, and when my other soft one breaks I'll probably buy another of these!
Have fun...
