5 out of 5 stars First, and best PC control pad I've ever had!   October 24, 2008
First and foremost, this is an excellent controller for the price. It works perfectly. So far, not a single in-game glitch, the rubber on the hand-grips and the analogue sticks are extremely comfortable, and it is got the same design layout as the PS2, although it is not exactly the same.

Even if you lose the disc, no biggie! The computer automatically detects the controller, and enables its use. The disc is only for calibrating the controls in games and behaviour of the controller in more detail.

It doesn't come with vibration - But not to worry. It has served its purpose for 2 years, yet it is still in peak condition (it can easily survive a few drops, or a bit of punishment).

5 out of 5 stars Logitech gamepad - one of the best gamepads I've used   August 7, 2008
I bought this joypad mainly to play emulated games on my macbook, so I didn't need anything particularly fancy. This isn't a joypad with rumble capability, or motion sensing, or similar... it's just a straightforward joypad with analogue sticks. Because of that, it's cheap, but still a well constructed, solid joypad. It looks great, and on my macbook it's simple to use, no drivers needed, OS X recognised it with no problems.

It fits my hands perfectly, and I'm a girl with very long fingers, so many joypads don't work for me. I can comfortably hold and use it for long periods of time, and it's perfectly responsive. The shape of the joypad (similar to a Playstation pad, but with the grips at the sides being somewhat more rounded and comfortable), the placement of rubbery pads on the side grips, all makes for a very ergonomic and comfortable joypad. The cable isn't incredibly long, but since a person tends to be closer to their computer when playing games than they'd be to a TV and games console, this doesn't seem like a big issue.

I'm also very picky about d-pads - many d-pads absolutely suck at accurate diagonal movement. I'd say most d-pads I've tried have failed me, so I may be pickier about this than most people. However, I haven't had any problems with this d-pad - it takes a little bit of getting used to, I wasn't used to a d-pad that was quite so raised, and it felt a little stiff at first, but after adapting to it it's been an absolute pleasure to use. All directions (including diagonals) have been consistently accurate, and it feels perfectly comfortable under my thumb.

The placement of the buttons (and analogue sticks) is essentially a copy of the Playstation Dualshock joypad, which is itself pretty much an evolved copy of the Super Nintendo's joypad, so while Logitech gets no points for originality they've used a thoroughly well tested layout that's existed for over 15 years now. Anyone comfortable with a Playstation or SNES pad should be perfectly happy with one of these. The buttons work perfectly, and tactile feedback is just right.

Now, I should point out that I haven't tried the analogue sticks out - I have no real need for them currently, and basically got them "just in case". Judging from the overall quality of the pad, they're probably fine, but I really can't say. It's probably best to read a second review that mentions the sticks, then again it's always a good idea to read multiple reviews of a product.

Finally, onto my criticisms. I don't have any serious complaints, there are just one or two minor issues. First thing is, like the Playstation, you can press the two analogue sticks for two extra buttons. However, the tactile feedback is a bit off, there. The sticks should really just click down once to press the button, but these sticks press down a little way (giving a quiet click) without registering a button press - if you then press a little further they click again a little louder and the button press is registered, but this sort of tactile feedback is not ideal. Personally, I don't use those buttons, but people should be aware of this in case it's an issue to them. Second, there's a little button called "mode", which under Windows apparently allows all the buttons to have a secondary function - kind of like the joypad equivalent of a caps lock key. However, under OS X this doesn't work. I haven't tested the joypad on Linux yet, so I don't know if it would have more luck. Those are the only problems I have with this pad, and overall, I'd rate it 4.5 out of 5 if Amazon allowed me, though given the option between 4 and 5 stars, I'm rating 5.

5 out of 5 stars Great Stuff   June 19, 2008
Ok, i have had it for about a year now, and so far have had no problems. this game pad is very good, build quality is great, it's responsive, worked out of the box for me (no drivers installed) and unlike what some people say about compability, this worked with all the games i have played so far, including Colin McRea which someone claims it doesnt work with. anyway, i'm back to purchase another one, because sometimes i play with my mates or me dad and i hate using the keyboard, it is the same price as the XBOX 360 controller for pc, but i am still gonna buy this, its fantastic, specially for football games like fifa 08 and Pro Evo 08. i personally dont like feedback vibration, but if u do, u might as well buy the Rumbel Pad II, it's on the same chassis, just has vibration feedback added.

5 out of 5 stars top marks   May 6, 2008
I owned this controller for 2 full years, and inevitably (after two years of continuous use) the d-pad mechanism began to stop responding well and i had to look for a new one. stupidly, i chose to go for a different product, thinking it would be better because it was newer than this little classic. of course i was very wrong, and after a couple of months of frustration with the new model (made by logic3) i have given in and come crawling back to this brilliant logitech gamepad which served me so well for so long. i guess you never know what you have until its taken from you!

4 out of 5 stars Great pad, but fragile   April 15, 2008

I enjoyed using this pad, up until it stopped working due to being dropped several times. What can I say? I'm an excitable gamer.

Not much else to say about it, really. Standard playstation style configuration, slightly chunky, nice button action.
