Manufacturer's Description The third game in the Fallout series, Fallout 3 is a singleplayer action role-playing game (RPG) set in a post-apocalyptic Washington DC. Combining the horrific insanity of the Cold War era theory of mutually assured destruction gone terribly wrong, with the kitschy naivety of American 1950s nuclear propaganda, Fallout 3 will satisfy both players familiar with the popular first two games in its series as well as those coming to the franchise for the first time. Welcome to the nation's capital. View larger. | The Brotherhood of Steel is a powerful ally. View larger. | Customize characters with your Pip-Boy. View larger. | The Story: Vault 101 - Jewel of the Wastes For 200 years, Vault 101 , a fallout shelter, has faithfully served the surviving residents of Washington DC and its environs, now known as the Capital Wasteland. Though the global atomic war of 2077 left the US all but destroyed, the residents of Vault 101 enjoy a life free from the constant stress of the outside world. Giant Insects, Raiders, Slavers, and yes, even Super Mutants are all no match for superior Vault-Tec engineering. Yet one fateful morning, you awake to find that your father has defied the Overseer and left the comfort and security afforded by Vault 101 for reasons unknown. Leaving the only home you've ever known, you emerge from the Vault into the harsh Wasteland sun to search for your father, and the truth.Key Features: - Limitless Freedom! - Take in the sights and sounds of the vast Capital Wasteland! - Mind-Blowing Artificial Intelligence! - At Vault-Tec, we realize that the key to reviving civilization after a global nuclear war is people. Our best minds pooled their efforts to produce an advanced version of Radiant AI, America's First Choice in Human Interaction Simulation. Facial expressions, gestures, unique dialog, and lifelike behavior are brought together with stunning results by the latest in Vault-Tec technology.

Fallout 3...... Rpg of the year ? November 19, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Best Rpg of 2008 i think so
First play for me was aprox 25 hours spread across two weeks of my game-time and the main story is complete. And it was great fun. Like sci-fi ? Fallout 3 is a great place to take your head. The speech has improved from Oblivion and is far less Generic . The combat system worked well for me , and after my character gained a few levels found i could battle in real time !
Now for a replay and just focus on the many varied sub-missions
And also i will try and find Dogmeat this time too. I had no probs with disc check here so thank you Bethesda for trusting the public who still buy games.
The Best RPG I've played November 19, 2008 As the title suggests, this is, by far, the best RPG game I've ever played on any format.
To be fair, it's all down to personal preference. If you've played Oblivion then you'd be instantly familiar with the game engine and mechanics, as under the hood it appears to be very much the same game. Don't necessarily take that as a bad thing though, there's been a few very subtle tweaks which have made Fallout 3 a much more satisfying experience. The lockpicking is much better here, the new computer hacking setup is taxing but satisfying, and most importantly combat (of which you'll do a good deal) is a heap better than Oblivion's slightly random sword-waving.
You can, if you wish, plough through your bullets in a first person shooter mode, akin to Half Life, but not nearly as good. Pretty soon you'll work out the genius of the VATS targeting system, which allows you to aim at specific body areas, shows you a percentage chance of a successful shot and the damage that should incur, then plays it out in cinematic slo-mo. It really works a lot better than it sounds, and by no means does it slow down the action or drag you out of the game's world.
The game's world is, for me, what makes the experience so gratifying though. OK, Cyrodiil was lush, verdant and beautiful to look at, but hey, so what. The DC Wasteland is fantastically realised, and extremely atmospheric to just wander around on your own, exploring the desolate landscape. Again it's personal taste, but I just find the post-apocalyptic setting much more interesting than fantasy kingdoms, but not everyone will agree.
There's loads of quests you can undertake and solve if you want to, or ignore if you'd rather, aside from the main plot quest. I'd definitely recommend taking on as many side-quests as you can to get the most out of the game, as the main quest is not actually that long and you'd end up feeling cheated out of a lot of the game if you just stuck to the central story. I did this, first time round, but can attest that what this does mean is that there's a huge amount of replay value. I'm doing everything differently this time, I know there's a whole lot more to discover out there.
Overall, I'd maybe go as far as to say that Fallout 3 is the game that Stalker wanted to be. It's atmospheric, beautifully detailed and you do find that you actually do care about what happens to (some, at least) characters, which again, Oblivion never made me feel.
If you want tons of magic and faerie realms, look elsewhere, but if you want brimming, bubbling exploration and action in as awesome setting, and felt maybe a little short-changed by Stalker, then this is definitely a game you really should play.
Oh, and I've not even noticed the DRM, so don't let that put you off. We all know it's a pain and that software companies are blowing off their own toes with these silly protection devices, but we shouldn't let that ruin our enjoyment of great art.
Another Securom insult... November 19, 2008 2 out of 10 found this review helpful
I've not played the game, so I cannot testify about the quality of gameplay but I just flat out refuse to purchase a game that contains securom for the reasons that many other reviewers have already pointed out.
Viva la resistance!
Amazing November 19, 2008 This game is a lot of fun. I don't need to go into details here, plenty of others have done that. The game is pretty adictive, levelling is important, so XP counts. Has an incredible atmosphere and it has the ability to keep scaring the pants off the player or raising the hackles on your neck. Only niggle is that in some of the cities there was a bit too much trouble trying to go in the direction you want to go, everything is blocked up and the subways are a bit of a pain.
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BUY! November 13, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Fo3 is an amazing game, but the producers (bethesda) have rushed it out onto the shelves for christmas. when the game works properly its great, great graphics, great story, great gameplay, great fun :p . BUT! the chances of you getting to play the game for more than 30 mins at a time before the game crashed are slim to none. ive got a month old msi gx700 laptop (very highspec) and fo3 crashes all the time, same go's for the ps3 and 360 version of the game. so if your going to buy the game, wait a few more months till some patches that work come out because the latest one doesnt.
