4 out of 5 stars Multi player extravaganza.   November 21, 2008
Genius. Take a shed load of zombies (and then some) mix in some half life and a large helping of gauntlet and you have left 4 dead.
The graphics are solid but not on par with the likes of gears of war but the lighting is excellently done. Multiplayer is at the heart of the game and while solo play gives you 3 computer controlled allies the real fun is multi player. The bots are a bit more useful than many human controlled players will be but when more players cotton on to the fact that going it solo will end in a painful death, the co operative made will actually end up being more co operative. Best enjoyed in games with your online buddies so you can rib each other over the stupid things you do.

5 out of 5 stars Left 4 Dead wont leave you wanting!   November 20, 2008
Received this game this morning (thank you Shopto!) and it is awesome! I've only had time to play the No Mercy scenario from the demo although I did play to the end of it (or at least until the very last bit before the heli comes...bloody horde!)
I have a feeling this is going to eat into my free time like nothing else since CoD4. The premise? It's Zombie-pocalypse! For some reason which is yet unexplained (although promises of future DLC are to expand on backstory) you play one of 4 survivors, Bill, Zoe, and two other guys whose name's I cant remember! The game has 2 distinct modes - the first is the Campaign - played online with 3 other fellow Survivors you play through various different mini-campaigns consisting of a number of seperate levels. Throughout these episodes you are beset, often on all sides by the Infected horde! Straight out of 28 Days Later these undead zombie mo-fos can really move! Often found in ones and twos in rooms they often build up in to staggering and down right deadly numbers. In amongst the regular Infected you will encounter 4 Super infected - The Tank (think zombie hulk!) The Hunter (the hoody from hell on anabolics) The Smoker (this guy has a tongue which could put some french men to shame!) The Boomer (Horde attracting vommiter!) and The Witch (scary scary scary!)
The Tank practically absorbs bullets, usually while throwing cars or concrete at you. The Hunter screams and pounces, usually from the other end of the corridor - pinning you to the floor until knocked off. The Smoker is lazier - preferring to lasso you with his tongue and pull you towards him. The Boomer will attempt to get close enough to spew on you - his vomit will then focus the Horde on you. The Witch...I haven't seen the witch yet...although she's killed me at least once! You hear her crying and sobbing which is the time to turn your light off and try not to make any loud noises - like gunfire. If disturbed she will heavily attack her disturber - as I said - one minute I was minding my business - the next I was on the floor firing my pistol blindly at my attacker while another Survivor attempted to help me to my feet and revive me!
And thats the genius of this game - Valve have produced another masterpiece which only works with team work - got a lazy Survivor? Not pulling their weight? You're doomed! You have to help out, share meds and watch out for each other because you're already outnumbered massively - it only takes one or two of you to drop and you're buggered!
The other game mode is Versus which I havent tried yet - its similar to campaign but the first 4 Super Infected are also controlled by players.

5 out of 5 stars A Very Good Suprise   November 18, 2008

After seeing this game at an event in new york 3 months ago, i was skeptical at first, the graphics wernt much better than ps2 and the gameplay was ok i guess, they had 2 player co-op when i saw it and it just looked a chore to play so wasent to impressed! So my bro downloads the demo and says to me "ive just downloaded this game and its awesome, really puts you in the game!" so i ask what it is and he says left 4 dead, now im thinking hmmm might be just cos hes young! so i give it ago! and to my suprise this game is actually very good, infact its so good it might actually be one of the games of the year for me! it is so much fun! and a different kind of shooter all together! the graphics are much better than it was, although still not gow2 standards but cant complain there! the gameplay is excellent especially the 4 players now! alot more fun to be had! the zombies/witches/Hunters/monsters are cool and smart although yes they just run at you but when you get to certain points you will sometimes if you dont rush into situation you will see them hiding behind walls and things! i like the sound in the game to! (turtle beaches are especially good for this game!) when you can hear a hunter or a witch! it scares you! eg. im in this room and i can hear this witch crying so im looking around and i accidently shine my torch at it (which startles it and makes it chase you) so im running away and my bro is next to me and i run straight past him and the witch flys past him after me and i see it on his screen and all i can hear behind me is the witch screaming and the screams getting louder and louder and next thing i know im dead lol this gameis also a bargain at 30 definately wont be dissapointed with this buy

5 out of 5 stars Multiplayer co-op TOP NOTCH!   November 17, 2008
As above i can only write a review on the demo of the game as i downloaded it from xbox live, however, this game is well worth the price you pay, some people have experienced people killing them for there equipment, this might be a downside to others, but it can easily be avoided by just playing with a group of 4 mates, i played this game from 6pm until 1am and still couldnt get enough, the only reason i had to stop is because i was shouting at the screen, and keeping my family awake!

The multiplayer is downright halarious on times, and is very challenging on expert, builds a better friendship when you have to run back 200 yards to save a friend from being ripped to shreds on the floor!

We played this game for hours, and decided to stay on the roof,a fter a short time of idling, the game decides enough is enough and sends 30 or more zombies after you, coming from rooftops and cupboards and sometimes even through walls, dont get me wrong there is a certain amount of gore, but not enough to put you off the game, the bodies disappear from the screen once the zombies have died leaving the frame rate of the game untouched, graphics are good, but what else would you expect from the valve team that brought you half life?

all in all very good game, single player can be quite tough on the unsuspecting player, expecting a cake walk to the safe rooms!

This review first off is only based on the demo, and cannot account for the final game.

Firstly the game is designed to be played with four players, or survivors, and the gameplay reflects this, if you actually want to survive especially on harder difficulties you will need them, whether its AI companions or friends over xbox live.

The basic concept of the game is get from A to B in each level while obviously avoiding and destroying massing hordes of C, now C in this case happens to be new age zombies or the infected, so basically very fast living dead. Sounds like it could get dull quite easy, well I personally have played the 2 levels the demo has to offer many times over live as its so much fun playing with others, and just laughing away as your being swarmed by zombies :)

The reason I think coop works so well, beside the 4 you blasting your way through endless numbers of zombies is that certain enemies will restrain you, or try dragging you away, which leaves you helpless, and it is up to your fellow survivors to help you out, which gives a feeling of team work, and is a nice touch.

The greatest part of this game though is that valve have included a system where every play of a level will be different, now A and B are still the same, and you know theres still gonna be alot of zombies, but where they spawn and the type of zombie that spawns will be completly different, also health bonuses, and weapons are in different places, which is why its so much fun playing over over, even if it is the same level!

There will also be a versus mode in the actual game, not playable in the demo, but I believe there will be 2 teams, those playing as the survivors
and those playing as the zombies, which im sure will be much fun!

So there we go, probaly not a game for everyone, but it is nice simple fun, I would at least recommened playing the demo, and that is great fun in itself, personally I cant wait for the release of this game, and hope plenty of others invest in this game, that way more live buddies to kill zombies with :)
