Manufacturer's Description The third game in the Fallout series, Fallout 3 is a singleplayer action role-playing game (RPG) set in a post-apocalyptic Washington DC. Combining the horrific insanity of the Cold War era theory of mutually assured destruction gone terribly wrong, with the kitschy naivety of American 1950s nuclear propaganda, Fallout 3 will satisfy both players familiar with the popular first two games in its series as well as those coming to the franchise for the first time. Welcome to the nation's capital. View larger. | The Brotherhood of Steel is a powerful ally. View larger. | Customize characters with your Pip-Boy. No Bethesda, it IS Oblivion with guns November 20, 2008 After MGS4 came and went, Fallout 3 was my next most anticipated game of the year, and after finally getting time to play it, I find my feelings on the final product a bit mixed.
It is as open and free as you'll expect if you've played previous Bethesda classic Oblivion, as Fallout 3 is pretty much identical in how most of the game works, but with a delightfully fifties centric view of a possible post apocalyptic future where you're free to roam the lands around ruined Washington DC following a fairly interesting central quest that sees you cross paths with some very well realised creatures and denizens of the wastes and presents a very satisfying, if slightly repetitive world in which to live.
The game looks great for one. Better than Oblivion for sure, and the ability to blow pieces off your enemies is both amusing and very satisying to the combat, which would otherwise feel like a fairly generic FPS title to be honest.
Unlike Oblivion though, Fallout doesn't really have many terribly engaging side quests outside the main storyline. No 'Assassin's Guild' type affairs in here I'm afraid. Plus the whole game seems to be a lot shorter than Oblivion, as I finished it in around 40 odd hours, whereas Oblivion lasted closer to 80 when I played it.
It's definitely a great game, but not the Oblivion destroying monster we'd been led to expect. Still a must buy though.
As a side note on this PS3 version too, I've read much about it's supposed myriad technical problems, but when I played it, I encountered very few myself. The game crashed on me once, and there is a fair bit of tearing in the scenery in the game, but nothing nearly as severe as the media has been suggesting. See for yourself and judge is all I can say folks. Just don't miss Fallout 3.

This is an amazing game seriously. Yes there are a few technical issues as mentioned in the other reviews but this doesnt take much away from how amazing the story line is. At first it can be slow and hard, but once you get about 10-15 hours in and start getting good weapons and perks then it really starts getting amazing.
Wasn't a huge fan off shooting game..I am now!! November 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a new PS3 owner this was one of my first games, and im so glad i bought it, its awesome..the way you can interact with many people giving them different answers reminds me of "Knights of the old republic" on the xbox, anyway seeing what the PS3 can do from the beginning(courtesy of my cousin getting most the recent games for his system) i would have to say this is a very impressive game for the PS3..i could write all about the game, but to be honest im not far into it(about 5 hours) and the game is huge..but i WILL finish it, i got fifa 09 at the same time and thought i would be on that all the time but i havent played it for a few days. Thats how stunning this game is!!
Best Game on PS3 so far, but not the most fun November 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is exceptional, Bethesda Softworks have outdone their excellent Oblivion with Fallout 3. It's not just Oblivion but with guns, it's a very unique shooter and very customizable. Everytime I play it I lose myself in the game.
Although it is not the most fun, it's not a game that you can sit down and play with mates. It's more immersive than that, you get involved with the characters and plotlines and at times it's quite exhausting. After a mission you might just find yourself gasping for breath. I had the same sort of experience watching The Dark Knight, it was incredible but not really that fun.
It's not without it's imperfections and at times can be frustrating, but the good points certainly outweigh the bad and you'll soon forget about your frustrations.
Buy this game if you like shooters and/or RPGs. It's incredible!
Love It November 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just have to start out by saying this is quickly becoming my favourite PS3 game. Also I hated Oblivion, it bored the hell out of me and i thought the combat in it was terrible and although the similarities in these games are obvious Fallout 3 is just a much improved funner version. I love the conversation in it i think it is very detailed, giving you loads of options to choose from and the music in it is brilliant. I'm pretty much addicted to that 'i dont want to set the world on fire' song. The fighting in it has also been improved greatly. Using V.A.T (i think thats what its called) to blow off someones head is hilarious. This game is also huge i've done two side quests, one where you have to deliver a letter to a womans missing brother and one were you have to find a scientists android, and a tiny bit of the main game and i've been playing for about 10 hours now. I've got just one thing against this game. I hate autosave, in any game, it drives me crazy im always terrified it's going to autosave the second before a bullent tunnels its way through my skull. But apart from this minor inconvenience this game is brilliant. Don't be put off if you didn't like Oblivion it is a million times better than it. 5 stars.
