3 out of 5 stars Good but room for improvement   November 11, 2008
This game has good graphics but the game play is not brilliant. The puzzles are fairly easy, apart from one, and the trick to surviving is not difficult either. Some reviews say it's repetivive or difficult to kill the pirates but if you approach correctly it's a challenge and you can avoid being killed and re-starting. The good thing is you can complete the game on medium difficulty and there is good satisfaction from this. It easily leaves the door open for a follow up and there are simple ways to improve the overall game.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but could be better.   October 14, 2008

I have always wanted this game since it came out and I got my hands on a pre-owned copy after trading in the appalling TNA Impact. I was very impressed with the opening cutscene and the first level was fantastic. It played like a modern version of Indiana Jones. The graphics are amazing, you really feel like you are in the middle of the jungle, in an ancient temple and a German U-Boat from World War 2. However, it was after this level that the game took a strange turn in to a shoot-em up.

The levels that follow are highly frustrating and basically require to shoot wave after wave of baddies from cover. The baddies require too many bullet hits before they die which only drags out the fighting to the point where it becomes frustrating and boring. I was really hoping for this to be an adventure in to history but it is basically just a shoot-em up with some treasure thrown in here and there. I hope they improve the sequel so that it focuses more on the 'Indiana Jones' side of the game which was fun when you weren't shooting at hundreds of baddies.

5 out of 5 stars best game ive got   September 28, 2008
After reading the revews and wachting the tralar i bought it.When i got it i opend it up and put it in my ps3.And wow what a game for starters the graphics are abousolutly butiful and stunning.the combat system is brillant you get to use all sorts of guns like shot guns machine guns etc
and you also get to do realy cool moves like sneaking up on a guy and braking his neck or just punching them or doing a flying kick. The game also uses the sixaxes a fair bit and the story line is realy good and you get so hoked you cant put it down.An Amazing Game a MUST BUY FOr PS3 owners

2 out of 5 stars bored then frustrated   September 24, 2008

I bought this game hoping for another great adventure since the previous game I bought for my PS3 was oblivion which gave me hours upon hours of entertainment and value for money. Unfortunately Drake's fortune did not. It soon became clear all I was expected to do was run a bit, shoot a bit and climb a bit over and over again. Frankly the shoot outs with the enemies soon became extremely boring, repeating the same thing every time. Plus the enemies seemed to only have to shoot Drake a couple of times before he died yet Drake has to shoot them many more times to achieve the same effect.

In the later levels the game seems to just go down the 'dark places full of zombies' route which seems somewhat unimaginative and cliche. I also found the later levels extremely frustrating as it would take me ages to get rid of a swarm of zombies only to be killed by another one as Drake pauses to reload his gun meaning having to kill the swarm all over again.

The only good things about this game are the graphics which are done well and the cutscenes which are quite realistic. If you're looking for a game with lots of adventure and puzzle solving which is more than just a constant shoot out it might be better to look elsewhere.

5 out of 5 stars Naughty Dog have unearthed their own gem of a game   September 21, 2008
This game from the Naughty Dog stable represents their first delve into the action adventure genre and is a very pleasing effort. The game is a cross between Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider. First mention has to go to the graphics which, look absolutely stunning taking on board some of that PS3 capability, some of the backdrops look sumptuos and have a real sense of grandeur to them like the sunset backdrop to the German sub in the jungle, whilst others like the scaling of the seaside fortress wall not only look good but are set at such a great height that they can leave you feeling almost dizzy and with a real concern for Drake in that one mistake on your part will lead to him tumbling to his demise.

Furtheremore, the cutscenes look great and are well acted out enhancing and helping to progress the storyline, which involves Drake uncovering an ancestor's chest from the seabed that sets him off on a treasure trail along with his 2 sidekicks(Sullivan and his romance interest, Elena a feisty journalist).

The levels are divided up into puzzle sections that are pretty much elementary and less involved than Tomb Raider and combat sections. Combat is enjoyable and you get to take out goons with a variety of different armaments. You are hampered however, by the fact that you are restricted to only being able to carry around a maximum of 2 main weapons at once; as opposed to being able to cycle through your weapons list and select at whim. Uncharted uses a take cover and shoot interface that works really well, in fact if you fail to take cover quickly enough Nate will be exposed and shot to pieces. You can also opt to close in and brawl by hand, for which there are combos available.

Another feature that enhances the game is the trophy system. Its really satisfactory to gain the various medals such as 30 headshots and they help unlock bonus content aswell as extending the life of the game. Although, this game is mainly action adventure I felt that some of the latter levels cross over into the genre of survival horror with the narrow, darkened tunnels and cursed mariners/creatures waiting to pounce on you; Eddie is taken out in style! There is also the use of the live action button just like in RE4 where if you fail to react quickly enough it results in instantaneous death.

In summary, Uncharted is a stylish action adventure game that richly deserves its plaudits.
