Amazon.co.uk Review

In a nutshell:
Sony’s favourite platforming double act go portable with a game that looks virtually indistinguishable from its big cousin PS2 versions. It plays just the same too and it’s still got the same great sense of humour that fans love.

The lowdown:
Whereas the last few Ratchet & Clank games have become obsessed with online team battles, to the point where the last one barely featured Clank the robot, this portable version is just like the games of old (although it does still have a 4 player mode). Ratchet is still armed with his trusty wrench and a whole host of pleasingly overpowered weapons such as the lacerator gun and the acid bomb glove – you can even switch between them all using the same selection wheel as the originals. The game has plenty of platform elements as well too, with Clank again able to help Ratchet glide to safety whilst in the air.

Most exciting moment:
After being reduced to a cameo in Ratchet: Deadlocked, Clank plays a larger role as a solo character in this new game, with a full wardrobe of robot suits to wear which give him new powers such as a robot flinging magnetic catapult.

Since you ask:
The game isn’t being developed by original developer Insomniac, who are busy on PlayStation 3 first person shooter Resistance: Fall of Man, but by new company High Impact Game.

The bottom line:
It looks like the best ever Ratchet & Clank game might be on the PSP.

3 out of 5 stars Short short short!   May 30, 2008
Argh! The plague of every single Ratchet and Clank game: length. If you played this start to finish, it would take you 6 hours at most I reckon. Obviously there is a fair amount of replay value to upgrade your weapons etc, however this is still quite difficult due to the lack of areas swarming with enemies that you could find in the ps2 games.

The graphics and gameplay are incredible but the story falls flat on its face and is lost to mediocrity, I can't even remember what happened in it!

Highly recommended, but buy it along side a few other games too to make the length seem acceptable; PSP games are so cheap now so do what I did: buy this, Metal Gear Portable Ops and Killzone Liberation all at the same time. It won't cost you more than 30 -the same price as one PSP game on the highstreet!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing   December 29, 2007
I loved the ps2 series and thought that this wouldnt be as good but it is easily just as good. its back to the origional gameplay i.e not Gladiator style. i would really reccommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Another sucsessful R&C game on the shelves.   August 5, 2007

R&C Gladiator had got me thinking that insomniac were running out of ideas and inspiration for this , now veteraned series on the Playstation consoles. It lacked heart and soul and most importantly it was boring; a few levels in were enough to see that the game had little promise of the adventures of its predesessors. R&C looked finished. It even ended on a "happily ever after" note making me sure that it was the last game in the series. But here's proof that I was wrong. R&C came waltzing back into the virtual world taking up residence in the latest portable gaming craze: the PSP.
Gameplay : Classic R&C platform gaming. Weapons that you can upgrade and hidden items and armour to find as well as several minigames and challenges to face along the way and hidden challenges required to obtain 'skill points'. Interestig weapons and armour too.

Graphics : R&C easily flounce their classic PS2 Graphics on the PSP system, not too cartoony and not too realistic, just right.

Sound : All the usual nothing special but nothing wrong either (which makes a change)

Enjoyability : Great fun, twists and turns all the way and some funny bits too.

Playability : loads to do in a relatively small game however a little more playable levels would have been better. But i think you will repeat this game at least once.

So there you have it, R&C Size Matters is definately an exellent game, so why the 4 stars you may ask, well its because its a little too short and rushed. The heart of the R&C series was the long winding and interesting levels and unfortunately none of the levels are long and some, a little uninteresting. Apart from this Insomniac can pat themselves on the back for another exellent R&C game.

5 out of 5 stars More Platformer Goodness!!!   June 26, 2007

If you liked Daxter on PSP, then you'll love this! It's Ratchet and Clank, but in the palm of your hands.

The Graphics are colourful and so cool for the PSP, and the gameplay is as fun and addicting as the PS2 versions!

If you want a lotta fun, buy this now!
