You can barely move for racing games on the PSP, which wouldn't normally be a problem except almost all of them are excellent. It's not a launch title, but Burnout Legends is looking like being an obvious must-have for anyone who's ever wanted to be a dangerous driver but been held back by a social conscience.

Relatively little has been seen of the game so far, bar a short playable demo which demonstrated a highly impressive level of graphic detail that makes it look just like Burnout 3: Takedown. In fact, the game will, rather like Ridge Racer, be a sort of "best of" compilation of features from all the previous Burnout games, including tracks from Burnout 1, 2 and 3.

A total of nine gameplay modes are promised, including the infamous Crash, Pursuit, Burning Lap, Road Rage, Eliminator, Race, Time Attack, Legends Face-Off and Legends GP. Four of these (Race, Crash, Pursuit and Road Rage) can be played in wireless multiplayer mode with up to four people. One other interesting element is that each game will ship with five cars out of a random selection of twenty-five -- with the other twenty only being unlocked as you play opponents in multiplayer.

To be honest, a port of one of the previous games would have been fine for most people, but this looks like being a lot more than just that. -- Harrison Dent

5 out of 5 stars Great Racing Game   May 29, 2007

Having never played Burn Out before but having heard of it, I was looking forward to playing this. And I wasn't disappointed. It was great fun.

Smashing into other cars is more fun than you can imagine. Some of the races do get very hard - I'm yet to complete some of them. My 3 and 6 year old nephews liked it too!

There is a lot of things to do in this game, to keep you coming back. Definitly not a game you'll complete and put aside.

The game is not as good as other games but i like burninglap the most because you can go over 200MPH in 3 secs using nitros boost.and you can also get face off, race, road rage, pursuit and crash.

5 out of 5 stars It's Burnout... but this time it's portable   February 4, 2007

So, if you haven't played Burnout before, here's the deal. Burnout is an arcade-style racer that's all about ludicrous speed, avoiding traffic on the roads and generally smashing your rivals into walls and other cars to earn you a boost.

The Burnout series has been strong all along, and especially with Burnout 3: Takedown the series had hit an all time high. Burnout Legends for the PSP takes all the best courses, modes and cars from the first three Burnout games, throws some new stuff in there for good measure and keeps the same insane sense of speed the other games had. You get standard modes like "Race" and "Eliminator" and the classic Burnout "Road Rage" where you basically have to wreck as many of your rivals as possible in the given time. For those of you who prefer to think a bit more about your gaming experience, Burnout offers the awesome "Crash" mode in which you're given a specific area in which you have to cause as much damage to traffic as possible by crashing in the most destructive way. Burnout has a ludicrous sense of speed. If you thought playing futuristic racers was fast, come and give Burnout a try. When you finally reach 200 mph in a "Super" class car, it really feels like you are going that fast, the race becomes less about good driving and more a test of your reflexes as you attempt to dodge traffic left and right.

The graphics and sound are both top-notch. Even on the PSP I was pretty impressed with the carnage that could go down on screen with only very minor framerate slowdown in some really big crashes. The sound is excellent as ever, but you'll need a decent pair of headphones to get the best from the sound, as always. The games soundtrack tries to appeal to some of the current trends around music, but it ends up being kind of mediocre, there are some good tunes but most of the music is usually inappropriate or just flat-out bad.

If you are a fan of racing games, or if you own a PSP. I would reccomend this game to you, you absolutely don't have to have a thing for cars to enjoy the visceral thrills that this game will offer you. Smashing into dudes never gets old. On a side note however, the Nintendo DS version of this game is broken quite nastily. If you own a DS give Legends a miss, there are plenty of other great games for you to enjoy on your DS ;)

Highly Reccomended.
