well...this is different! January 10, 2006 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I only recently bought a gamecube becouse two of my best friends had one, and there were alot of games that I liked that were only available on gamecube. So for christmas I got a Gamecube and it came with a game called starfox adventures, I realy liked the game and when I heard that the new one was out I borrowed it off my friend. After the first mission I was disapointed and just switched it off. You see on the first one there was lots of skill and you got to kick some but with a scraggy old stick, but it was fun becouse there were different tricks, and you got some space shooting, and there was the occasional puzzle here and there as well. So I thought that all the way through it was only in a space ship, but after a while I had nothing to do and I just had a quick go at mission two and realised that most of the game was on the ground, blowing hings up! It's a wierd change, but its certainly a good one! Unfortunatly it isnt very long, there are only about eleven missions. But after that, the multi-player mode is excellent! If you play it long enough (and believe me I have been playing all the time with my omboy sister!)then you can earn new characters and weapons, and arenas! So if you liked starfox adventures for the puzzles then don't buy it. But if you liked starfox adventures for the action, THEN GET OUT THERE AND BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A terrible let down August 13, 2005 4 out of 12 found this review helpful
When i first played starfox all those years ago on the snes i was totally overwhelmed by the graphics (trust me in the day they were incredible) and the originality of the gameplay. Not too long after when i played through Lylat wars on the N64 it became one of my favourite games ever, wonderful control, loads of replay value, just truly awesome! So imagine my disapointment to see how rubbish this latest installment was. The game is broken up by horrendously put together 3rd person on foot shooting levels, which are hard to control, for instance it takes too long to turn fox around, so if enemies are behind you, there goes your health. The landmaster tank, once a weapon of great power is now a liability as its control method just doesnt make sense! And the whole game just lost its nintendo magic. Im afraid this game was an utter let down because it failed to retain anything that was good about the first starfox games. But i still must admit that it beats starfox adventure!
An Improvement, But Still Not Quite There. . . July 21, 2005 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was worried at first about "Starfox Assault". Mainly, because "Starfox Adventures" was not all it lived up to be and a disappointment and I felt this game would be the same. I'm relieved to say it is an improvement than the last game but still lacks content. Though, the flying levels have returned to their best, the levels on foot and in the Landmaster fail to please though sometimes they're quite good. The music is still great and the character voices are better but it'll do just now.
Star Fox assault July 10, 2005 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
Bang bang, explosions everywhere and ultimate destruction! This is what we all want! You can use Falco, Slippy, Krystal or good old Fox! The weapons rock and you can attack with you arwing, on foot or with your armytank-like land master! It has a brilliant multiplayer where you can use all four characters and 2 hidden characters (Wolf and the old man rabbit Peppy). The levels are great and you can set the difficulty buy using the bronze, silver or gold levels. The only bad parts are the fact that there's not enough levels and in multiplayer whoever has a plane usually wins. This isn't the best Gamecube game but if you like violence and flying around in an arwing (i do so i gave it four stars) you should get this!
Good, but far too short. July 6, 2005 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this game on the strength of the reviews, but overall it is a disappointment.First off, let me emphasize how bloody short this game is, the other reviews say it's short, but i didn't expect this. I completed it in one day with time to go to work and easily get enough sleep. The graphics are brilliant, with detailed explosions and colourful enemies and scenery a good balance of cell shading that looks sharp, but not cartoony. the gameplay you do get is good, with lots of fast action and a good mixture of Arwing, Landmaster and Pilot missions but it can get old fast as there's not much structure, completing it on bronze is pretty easy (with an exception for the last boss) and i'm not sure about other gamers but replaying the game on harder settings just to squeeze out every last bit of gameplay is not exactly appealing to me. The multiplayer is the part i'd hoped would be really good, but it's too frenzyed with a gaurantee that once you get in an arwing, you'll pretty much devastate all of your friends, and the addition of the demon launcher is ridiculous as it eliminates any skill.. This game had the potential to be brilliant if they spent more time on it, but with only 5 arwing missions and 5 land missions it is a serious letdown, it is fun, but for the amount of gameplay hours it is definately not worth 30 pounds, i'd agree with the previous reviewer that buying it second hand is definately the best idea, i would recommend it to fans of the series, but probably not to anyone else. It would be 5 stars if it wasn't half the length it should be.
