Don't believe the hype June 25, 2004 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is a poor offering from the makers of the great GTA. If you're looking for a wild west remake of GTA then look elsewhere because under the surface Red Dead Revolver is a very average shoot 'em up.Levels invariably exist of shooting a number of enemies, progressing along a linear path until you meet the boss. Bosses get progressively more difficult through the levels but as the difficulty goes up so does the frustration. Killing most bosses requires finding the secret to their weakness. Finding the secret is usually a matter of trial and error and results in many retries until the weakness is found. The graphics are poor. I expect far better from the X-Box. If I wanted PS2 graphics on the X-Box I'd have bought a PS2. The only plus point is the music and sound effects which go well to support to the wild west feel. But good music can't diguise what is an overall disappointing experience.

I was a bit put off buying this game due to the reason I don't like westerns, the sales assisstant recomended it, so I tried it. I'm so glad I did, this game is Amazing, I worship the guy's at Rockstar for this one, absoultly fantastic, You need this game in your collection. the story: You play as Red mainly but other characters are included, Red is boy who's parents were killed by some outlaws and want's revenge. Red will know the man who did it, as a child Red shot this mans arm off. Pur great western story of revenge, perfect. Gameplay: 9/10 graphics 8.5/10 sound 8.7/10 story: 9.1/10 Multiplayer: 8.4/10 Overall: 9.6/10Get this game you will not be dissapointed, to show I'm not biased I will give only one bad point, not enough levels.
One of the best games on The XBOX June 22, 2004 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Like the first review, if you like spagetti westerns youll love this game, however if you are a seasoned XBOXer Like myself you may find this game only just challengers your abillity i bought this game Last Friday (18th June) in the afternoon and by Sunday Night (20th June) I had Completed it but when you complete the game you get bounty hunter which is a part of the game where you choose which mission to do and play that level again only you must do a certain thing like complete it in under 4 min and things like that but all in all its a great game and i only hope that they make a sequel
If you're a fan of spaghetti westerns, you'll like this... June 21, 2004 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Yup, if you're a fan of Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns (as I am), there should be plenty for you to like in Red Dead Revolver. It takes many elements from those kind of movies: the lone stranger on a quest for revenge; duelling (complete with Sergio Leone style close-ups to build tension); a corrupt Mexican general and many, many more.A personal favourite was chasing the train on horseback and leaping off the horse and onto the train and back on again, all the while taking out the bad guys with a hail of lead from my trusty shooters. In fact, the action over all is very good and towards the end becomes very fast paced. You'll soon realise early on, that tactical play is essential... and rather than just going in all guns blazing, you'll be using rocks, old carts, walls, hedgerows for cover. Luckily, the game lets you shimmy against such surfaces and peek around corners before leaping out and firing a few shots. Great stuff. The music too, is excellent, all spaghetti western stylings. A quick look at the credits in the manual soon reveals why the music is so good. Most tracks seem to be taken from actual movies and a certain Ennio Morricone is down as one of the composers. Throughout the game, you get to play as other characters, five in total. I thought this might detract from Red's main storyline, but it adds depth and works surprisingly well. The downsides? Okay, the game is a little short. There are about 27 chapters, but some of them are a bit too short and easy to complete. Most people will complete the game in no time, although completing it first time round, does open up a hard mode and a Bounty Hunter mode and there's a fair bit to unlock as you move through the game and earn money. Graphically, I think Xbox users have been short changed as usual. The game is too obviously designed for the graphical capabilities of the Playstation2. Don't get me wrong, the graphics are quite nice, but we know Xbox can do far better than this. Overall, a very enjoyable Wild West shooter. And in a market saturated with sci-fi shooters, it presents a welcome change.
Get off your hoss and drink your milk pilgrim June 18, 2004 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
From the sepia stained graphics, to the melancholy tones of a Clint soundtrack, this game has everything to make you feel like your in the Wild West. The graphics are good - a lot like GTA 3 etc. but I guess thats to be expected of course. The levels are intersting and somewhat varied, but a bit too linear for long time gameplay. It feels really satisfying using a rock for cover and loading your shooting irons to dispense of some varmints. The in game cut scenes are fantastic, and the story line borrows from almost every western ever made - which is no bad thing. Multiplayer is great fun, however, it's a crying shame there is no xbox live. Maybe in the sequel.....All this talk is making me thirsty, I'm a gonna mosey on down to the saloon. Maybe rustle me up some pilgrims on the way.
