4 out of 5 stars Fun but be careful!!   August 31, 2008

I have had my wii now for a couple of years and it now has a few odd plays every so often. I still love the concept and it is much more interaction than my old Xbox. I am just a bit disappointed that the online element to the console is really limited to sharing your Mii characters and not playing against other wii owners. The whole system is really easy to set up to your tv and has been very reliable. Still would recommend this console to anyone.

4 out of 5 stars Great at first, but not for everyone   August 29, 2008

With this console, more than any other, I'll have to pick my words carefully. I have owned the Wii for a year alongside and an Elite and a PS3. I have had a lot of fun with this console and some of the games, but it lacks something for me which I cannot necessarily put my finger on.

The console is well designed and a lot smaller than the others. The Wii menu is easy to use and the ability to create Miis is a fantastic feature (which Microsoft have copied with their new avatar capibilities due to arrive later this year). You also have the ability to play online as long as you have a broadband connection.

Regarding the games, you get a large list of exclusive titles and multi format games which have been designed with the Wii's controls in mind. I would personally recommend Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and Super Smash Bros Brawl. I did not enjoy Mario Kart or Twilight Princess as I'm afraid that they did not give me anything new, but they are worth trying if you are a fan of either the Mario Kart or Zelda series. I think that my problem with the Wii centres on the controls themselves. Yes, they are new and yes, they offer a different dimension, but I have yet to feel blown away by anything so far. I'm not saying that its bad, but I was hoping that by now we would see more from the Wii.

A lot of people criticise the graphics, but it is not a HD machine. If graphics are really important to you, then you have 2 other consoles on the market to cater for what you're after. It is also worth noting that you can download (at a cost) various nintendo classics on the virtual console.

Overall, I would recommend buying this console if you want a new approach to gaming or if you feel like the gaming world has stagnated. The Wii may reawaken the inner gamer in you, but its not necessarily the "Revolution" that Nintendo had envisaged.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Brilliant!!   August 25, 2008

This is the best console ever created. The things other companies have tried before and failed Nintendo nail to make a fanastic games console. I was a little unsure buying it as i'd heard bad things about the response times of the controllers to the games but i guess it all depends on which games your playing!!

Buy one!

p.s how can anyone give this a 1 rating?

4 out of 5 stars A good console   August 25, 2008

This is a very good console. Its very fun and goes beyond button bashing, it also lots of good games and channels. It isn't perfect though. The online play is not very good and there are many rubbish games. If you like first person shooters don't get this. My advice is to have a wii downstairs and a ps3 or xbox360 in your room.

1 out of 5 stars Cheap plastic that won't work   August 18, 2008

Don't know where to start, the whole family loved it when it came and it took only 2 weeks and the fun dissapeared. Every disc we put in to play it wouldn't start and it came with a message: CONSOLE CAN'T READ THE DISC, PLEASE READ THE MANUAL FOR MORE HELP. The only answer in their manual and online support is: clean the disc and make sure you put it on the right way - ridiculous.
Kept ringing them every day for 5-6 days and got fedup wasting time & money on the phone. Tried their online service centre with hope that it is going to work - no chance. Funny enough they didn't even recognise my Nintendo's serial number so they put me back to that only number in the whole Company which wouldn't work anyway. Decided to send them an email while waiting in the phone one day, saying please pick up the phone I'm waiting for about 15 minutes and it sounds funny but they did.

Agreed to send it back for repair and I will send it as soon as the pre-posted envelope will arrive but I am not happy at all with the console and their service. I thought it's only me but I searched online for the error: "NINTENDO Wii CAN'T READ DISC" and 1000's of people were having the same problem and the best & only solution was to send it back for repair. They may repair it for me and bring it back fine but why shouldn't that work in the first place, why do you have to spend hours and days in the phone anyway to get through to a person who can help you, why they don't come up with a firmware upgrade for all Nintendo Wii's to solve this major problem that is happening to lots of people? My son has really "tortured" his Play Station for about 4 years now, dropped in the floor many times, knocked, overheated, overplayed, and it's still strong and solid but you could never compare that with this cheap plastic thing that won't work(very expensive though in money).
