Poorly designed January 15, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The USB access point has apparently been designed with simplicity as the overriding priority, which sounds sensible until you realise that when something designed fthis way goes wrong or runs into something its designers didn't think of, it generally can't be fixed. Such is the case here. A brief list of problems:
- No support for non-Windows platforms - irritating since I spend most of my time using non-Windows platforms, but at least it's mentioned up front.
- Totally incompatible with ZoneAlarm, a popular firewall, to the point at which it won't work at all unless ZoneAlarm is deactivated (resulting in a highly unsecure connection). This isn't related to my inability to set it up - it's a known issue. Apparently several other firewalls have similar problems.
- If you connect via a router, expect some problems with IP conflicts if you use the 192.168.0.x or the 192.168.1.x addressing schemes (the most common).
- Has no facility for setting a proxy. That might sound like a minor flaw that would only affect power users, but if you don't have full control over your network then it might be a serious issue. Universities especially like to use proxies. I'll repeat that. *IF YOU ARE A UNIVERSITY STUDENT, IT IS HIGHLY LIKELY THAT THIS ACCESS POINT WILL NOT WORK ON YOUR UNIVERSITY CONNECTION!* There's no way of making it work, either. Now I'm going to have to shell out for a wired adapter (because of course Nintendo couldn't just have used a standard network port)...
These problems are caused mostly by a complete lack of configurability that could easily have been remedied at any stage in the device's development, but for whatever reason they weren't. All in all, unless you're absolutely certain it will work without a problem this device is best avoided.

Poor Suport from Nintendo!! December 2, 2007 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
Chanced my arm based on the reviews. It was not that easy to install. Loads of error codes which are hard to locate on the Nintendo support site! Emailed Nintendo customer support twice requesting assistance. They didnt bother to reply!
Quite bad August 29, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Firstly, it took me 5 attempts to install the program onto my computer. Then, several hours after installation, it stopped working. Every time I tried to connect my Nintendo DS to the connecter, it wouldn't allow me. I then uninstalled the program, thinking that it may work after I had installed it again. However, I am now at the point where it will not allow me to re-install it. There are good qualty products to spend 30 on, but this isn't one of them.
Works on Vista Home Premium!! August 17, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this connector knowing that it only worked on Windows XP, i have Windows Vista home premium and it works perfect. I had trouble at 1st, it said i had the wrong platform of windows but i tried again but the 2nd time i put the connector in 1st . . nothing happened so i put the installation cd and it setup in about 3 Mins it was easy!! The ds had trouble connecting on registration 2 the computer but i tried again and it worked perfect, i'd recommend this connector if u had XP or Vista!!
