4 out of 5 stars It actually seems to work   January 4, 2008

I bought thia game about a month ago and I have done it nearly everyday, and it has made a massive difference to my scores on the game anyway...whether it has changed my brain in real life remains to be seen. At first it is quite fun to play if somewhat a little frustrating, it was the only game I had when I first bought my DS and it only saves your results once per day. The stroop test is really annoying, if your female or a small child then the voice recognition is not too clever and you find yourself screaming "blue" at the DS in as many different ways as possible and it still won't recognise what you have said. If you avoid the voice recognition challenges though it is quite good. After a month I am getting a little bored of some of the challenges and I think I am now ready for the More Brain Training. If you haven't tried it yet I would highly recomend it your score do improve dramatically if you do it often, when I first played my brain age was 60 it is now 24 (i'm 27).

3 out of 5 stars It definitely helps your brain but....   January 4, 2008

This game was one he first DS games I got and Brain Training, to my delight, made great use of the touch screen. The games within are fairly simple but are challenging when put to the clock. You can also do a somewhat inaccurate calculation of your brain "age". This is only determined on your time not on the difficulty

Another flaw I found was the Voice Calculations with the DS' Mic. The Mic can't pick up the numbers 4,6,8,9. Very frusrating but avoidable as there are plenty of other games.

I was playing this non stop when I first got it. I was trying to beat my scores more than anything because quite honestly, the fun wears off after round one.

Considering the price of under 20 and how it helps your brain's reactions then I recommend but I wouldn't recommend to those wanting this game expecting weeks of fun with it.

Brain Training lets you assess and try to improve your 'Brain age' with a number of games (or "Training Programs"). It is great fun just to take a few minutes each day working through them and trying to beat your high scores.

The games test skills including multiplication, counting and reading aloud. It all sounds simple, but can be quite challenging at times! It never gets infuriating though. As you keep playing and improve your high scores, you unlock new features, which can be motivating, although there are not a great amount.

In between training, a cartoon of Dr Kawashima appears on screen, offering instructions, brain training tips and supposedly amusing comments. This can be annoying, as the same comments are repeated often, and there is no way to turn them off.

Aside from the Brain Training, there is a Sudoku game. There are many puzzles to be solved, with varying difficulty, and the not-so-confident players can even have hints for when they make errors.

The main issue I have with this game is that it easily misreads numbers you have written with the stylus and the voice recognition (used in 2 training games) does not always work well. Also, when you have entered a wrong answer it does not get accepted instantly, so cheaters will have time to change what they have written!

Brain Training should be an essential purchase for all DS owners and is something all ages can enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Good Value   January 1, 2008

I bought this for Christmas for all of the family to use. It's good value, it's fun - it's addictive at first and has brought out the competitive side of every one as there is the ability to compare results. It also helps you to improve your brain when you have tended to be a bit lazy over time.
Like other reviewers voice recognition on the colour test has been a bit sketchy.

At fist look this game seems to be a good buy, but unfortunately the voice and hand writing recognition is rubbish, you either find yourself shouting at the unit or continuously having to re-write answers.
In the word memory part you have 4 slots to write letters in, but invariably the letters you write come out completely different to what you have actually written on screen, sometimes a single letter will be interpreted as two, even though all the strokes are within the box.
This game is not for the easily annoyed.

The good part is that my other half loves the Sudoku part, and I do feel that my speed maths skills are improving. I'm also learning to control my anger with electronic equipment.
