DS Lite May 28, 2006 30 out of 41 found this review helpful
if you would rather take your GBA-SP out just because you're ashamed of the way your DS looks, then worry not, my friends! The DSlite is here. Read everyone else's reviews to find out the nittygritty, I'm just going to say what people might not know:
1. The GBA cartridge sticks out of the bottom. I didn't know this, and was worried my DSlite was broken. Turns out it's not, it's just a bad design. So, To tackle this (and to be able to still play Zelda GB and GBC on the go, I take both my SP and my DSlite. All the adverts were right, the SP still fits into tiny pockets, and can play the whole cartridge back catalouge.
2. It scratches and smudges to no end. Don't they all?
3. I don't like the placing/design of the power lights, thought they were better on the DS orig.
4. It still letterboxes GBA games. Shame.
So in conclusion, DSlite is the way forward if you're looking for an upgrade. My black lite goes beautifully with my black SP, but if that's not your preference, then you'll still be pleased. I'd've liked it if they'd just scrapped the needless GBA cartdridge add-on and put a space for another DS card. Told you it was a good idea.
Anyway, thats gonna be the DS-Ex GBA-Lite model, I'm sure. God knows I'll buy that one too though.
Waiting around for the Wii now.
Hope this helped!
Awesome May 27, 2006 29 out of 36 found this review helpful
The original DS is already one of the best consoles available at the moment. Simple and fun. Sure, there's the PSP and such out, but these seem to me to be glorified "media centres", whereas the DS is something you can just pick up and PLAY on.
The DS lite is all the goodness of the old one with a better screen in a smaller size -it looks a lot sleeker too. I've got one imported and I can thoroughly recommend it!
There are a whole bunch of great games in the pipeline for this console too. New Zelda for instance and the new Mario! Old faces perhaps but great games. If you want something unsual there are games like Trauma Center (where you use the touch screen to perform operations) that are already released. And make sure to get an online capable game like Mario Kart ;)
Much better than the original DS... May 27, 2006 17 out of 22 found this review helpful
I have just imported an Enamel Navy DS Lite from Japan. It is a lot smaller and lighter than the original DS (23% I think). The stylus is a bit longer too, making it easier to grip. The original DS only has two brightness levels (on and off), but the DS Lite has four brightness levels, making it brighter and clearer. The buttons are in different places too. I, personally, think they are in better positions. Also, with the DS Lite, you get a cover for the Game Boy Advance games slot, so as to stop dust getting in it. The only bad thing about the DS Lite is that the top and bottom are easy to get covered in fingerprints. However, this doesn't apply the inside of the DS Lite. Overall, the DS Lite is much better than the original DS.
