Ridiculously childish March 24, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this game thinking it would be like Super Monkey Ball 3 but with better graphics and new gameplay. However I was very much mistaken. This game is dreadful compared to Super Monkey Ball 3 as the gameplay is less addictive and the mini games are too childish. Only buy if you have children below the age of about 8.
Good, Monkey-Based Fun... February 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you've ever played a "Super Monkey Ball" game - you'll know exactly what to expect here. You pick a monkey, they get put in a ball, you roll the ball to the goal - simple. Except - as you'll know if you've played a game in the series - there'll be an all manner of increasingly devilish things thrown at you.
Picking up "Banana Blitz" for the first time, you'll noticed the controls are a little awkward (holding the remote on you palm and tilting it around), and not as responsive as earlier "Monkey Ball" games, and as such, the levels have been made a tad chunkier and easier. Still, once you've progressed through the game and reached the later levels, they won't stop you tearing your hair out in frustration. But, if you do get a bit angry, there's a MASSIVE selection of minigames for play, all using the remote in a unique way, and it's a great multiplayer experience.
VERDICT: Great fun, and there's no better thrill than mastering those tougher levels.
Great game. Loved it **** September 17, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The main game in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz is very much like Kororinpa Marble Mania and if that is what you are after, I would look at Kororinpa, BUT that is not the reason why I love the game. I finished the 'main game' the first time I played it.
There are many mini-games in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz such as frisbee, squash, bowling and such. The games are designed to play with 2 or more and are a lot of fun. The graphics are very Japanese, and may seem childish, but the games are a lot of fun for all. They make very good use of the Wii controls and in fact every mini-games does that in a different way.
Coming back from a drink, playing this for a while with friends is just the funniest thing. I do not think you can go wrong with funny games that you can play with friends such as this game or Wii Sports, they are timeless fun and that is what the Wii was designed for.
Much better than I expected. July 10, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I must confess I had my doubts about this game. The first two GameCube classics were always going to be a tough act to follow, and the lousy PS2 sequels proved that it wasn't going to be an easy task.
I bought this game on a whim and was very pleasently surprised. I am even more surprised at how many negative reviews there are beneath this one, as this game, for my part, almost lives up to the original.
It looks great, proving to the naysayers out there that there is a noticable visual difference between the Wii and the older consoles. The designs are very much in keeping with the style of previous outings, as is the layout of the game. The biggest difference is that our blessed monkeys can now jump. This could have been disastrous, but the levels play very much to the advantage of this new development.
The overall control is tough at first, as you use the remote's motion sensor to control the monkeys' movement. Toughness aside, it does feel like a natural progression from the control stick and it does work quite nicely.
Where the game fails is in its overzealous addition of no less than 50 mini games. Some of them are quite fun, but the bulk of them are badly designed and ultimately just not fun. It's a shame that the classic mini games from the first two games have been scrapped, as they could have been interesting with the Wii's technology.
That minor gripe aside, the main game is still fun, kooky, engaging and traditionally frustrating. You could do a lot worse with 30 than buy a copy of this, so give it a shot and decide for yourself.

Never have I been so disappointed with a game. This was the first "real" game i bought for the Wii (after play and sports) because i had loved SMB 1 and 2 on the gamecube and thought the Wii would only enhance the mini-game madness. This game feels rushed the mini games don't feel well constructed at all, some of them still not working after several attempts, definitely a case of quantity of quality. The one player though never a big appeal on the old game, is over twitchy and frustrating to control which is the final nail in the coffin for a game that is an insult to it's predecessors.
