4 out of 5 stars Nice accessory - not needed for all games   January 11, 2007

The Wii Nunchuk (this is the official spelling!) is used in a few games. Most often, it's used in first-person perspective games as a joystick to control your movement, while the Wii Remote is controlling your view.
As well as the joystick and 2 buttons, it also has motion-sensing capabilities, so you can use it (for example) in Wii boxing to represent your right hand (or left hand if you are left-handed) . In Red Steel, and Zelda, you use both the joystick and motion.
However, since you get one Nunchuk with the Wii, it's really only worth purchasing this if you want to use it for multiplayer games that require it (Wii Boxing in Wii Sports, Red Steel, Rayman Ravin' Rabbids, etc).

The Nunchuk won't work without a Remote, and is attached to it via a wire, which mostly stays out of the way.

It's worth buying, but only if you know you have a game that requires it...

4 out of 5 stars Essential purchase   January 6, 2007

I was lucky enough to get hold of a Nunchuck a couple of weeks ago when Amazon had some stock.

Personally I think it's an essential purchase, if only so you can play 2 player boxing. There's nothing better than having a good fight with your mates, especially when you knock them out in the first round.

Only time will tell how many multiplayer games will take advantage of the Nunchuck, but I'm pretty sure a large number will. It offers a couple of extra buttons, the analogue stick and the motion sensitivity.

My only complaint is that you have to plug it into the remote and the wire can get in the way. But having the wire does mean it doesn't require any batteries so there is an advantage.

5 out of 5 stars Adds significantly to the playabllity of games   January 5, 2007

The nunchuck, along with the Wii-mote are a revolution. As many of you will know during development, the project title was "Project Revolution". and it has delivered. The nunchuck also features tilt sensors and gives an almost 3d element to each game that requires one. Zelda, for example, is such a natural and fluid game to play due to the length of the connecting wire and games like Rayman would not survive without the nunchuck.

As for the disabled vote, it should be N/A. Ninendo have designed this console to bring enjoyment to the majority, unfortunately the disabled are a large minority and may have been neglected during the production of this console however it is just not feasable for Nintendo to be downgrading their console for the minority. And in this instance you should not be elligable to vote, it is the equivalent of a blind person reviewing game graphics.

5 out of 5 stars Great   January 5, 2007

This controller add-on really adds to the realism of games such as boxing on Wii Sports. Whilst the new controls take some getting used to, and I imagine could pose difficulties for those with disabilities, I would be inclined to believe that problems would lie with controlling Zelda rather than Sports, because later aspects of the game require careful hand-eye co-ordination and absolute physical control of the controller.

I would also state from experience that both remote and nunchuck take a lot of getting used to, particularly at the beginning, and it indeed can be frustrating. If you stick with it though, it is definitely very rewarding.

I would also say that if you are wary of this controller, which is an add-on for the remote, I would suggest purchasing the standard old-style controller also available, in which case you would still be able to enjoy this console and all its games in the same way you would a PS 2 or a Gamecube.
